Hi All,

I'm looking at this 1969 Guild D-40 for sale at Rivington Guitars in NY City.
I live outside the US and I was wondering if anyone has seen or played this guitar?

http://www.gbase.com/gear/guild-d-40-1969-natural#

It looks very nice, and I believe the '60's Guilds are very resonant and toneful.

I'm a bit puzzled with the funky saddle though, and is the bridge a little shaved?

Finally, how does the price sit, regarding older Guilds?

Thanks to anyone who can give advice/guidance.

John.

Can't really help you, but welcome to LTG.

FWIW, the folks at Rivington were nice talking to on the phone. Their price on a M-85 II bass was pretty firm but it sold in four days so in that case they priced correctly for the market.

Looks like that saddle doesn't fit the original slot. Also, that's a pretty high price for a '69 D40 based on others I have seen over the past year or so.

No, I decided not to go for it. At the asking price, I would have concerns about that poorly fitting saddle and I thought the bridge looked a little thin - maybe shaved.

They weren't very specific about it's condition.

I emailed them with specific questions about it's condition and got the below reply:

It's old and has some wear. It plays and sounds great. Feel free to
call for an in hand description.

FWIW, Rivington was very vague via email but extremely helpful when I phoned. I suspect your lack of response had something to do with the fact that the owner answers email when he is not in the store and is very cautious about describing an instrument from memory. "Call for an in hand description."

Since you say you are outside the US, perhaps a US LTG member might step in and inquire on your behalf if international phone calls are prohibitively expensive.

fronobulax,

Thanks for that.....
Sometime I would like to buy a vintage Guild dread if a nice one comes up for sale.

I'll touch base here more ofen and see what happens.

Friendly folk here on this forum - that's for sure- so I may hit paydirt sometime soon!

John.
