Wow. Just, wow.
Suspect there was a bit of labor in getting that up and for that I'm sure many of us will sincerely thank you both.
It oughta be a sticky because there's so many little details in there.
Example: D40's and D35's with 1-3/4 nut, didn't think they offered that size that late.
S50 with gumby headstock, didn't remember those ever got those, if it's in Hans' book..
Says Bigsby was standard on DE's, we saw one recently without, and somebody wondered whether that was original.
On top of all that I started havin' a flashback.
Gotta go lie down now until the echoes start wearin' off.

hi Al, the "Gumby Headstock" (to me its actually the "asymmetrical headstock," and the term "gumby" would refer to the T-bird body shape and Jetstar BASS body shape, but i digress)...was standard on S-50s thru the end of 1965. its rare to find one in ex condition/non headstock repaired, but they are out there (i actually own a realy nice one). what blew me away more about that picture is the *black* colored pick up cover. ive only seen chrome or white. also, the catalog is from 1968 and that headstock did change to 6-on-a-side in 1966...

also, re: the flashback...awesome!

Notice the long-replaced Franz pups on the hollowbodies. <edit> DeArmond pups on the Duane Eddies, also.

Thanks Eric. That looks just like the one I got outbid on eBay a couple of months back (by a buck). Don't know when I'll ever see another one of them...

Didn't know Richie Havens played an F-50.

That is some wicked cool history, and really a pretty nicely done catalog.

I remember drooling over the archtops in that catalog back in the day. May still have it somewhere, no idea where, though.

Nice job loading that up! I used to have a copy of this catalog, I love the little drawings in the margins of some of the pages. Reminded me of MAD magazine!

this is not that same catalog. Doug H has had this all these years! Some of u may recall Doug is a newer member that has that creamy 50s F-50 from a few weeks ago as well.

I wasn't thinking that really. Love to have one of them to go along with my '68. The mid-'70s one that was listed by the same seller on eBay and that I did win is pretty close to my '73. Wish I had gotten both of them, but the '68 catalog went for more than twice as much, and I wasn't expecting that.

Thanks. Very interesting.

Anyone with knowledge want to comment on the basses with "Guild Anti-Hum Pick-Ups" and or what it took to "adapt" them to the Starfire II? In a world with two coil pickups explicitly designed to reduce hum, I've never heard the Bisonic described as a humbucker. On the other hand I have heard stories of Bisonics with two magnets, so perhaps an anti-hum Bisonic had two magnets and just didn't do an especially good job of bucking hum?

i won't exactly say i "have knowledge" but the Bisonic is a single coil. maybe it is a "split single coil in humbucking position" like a pbass or mustang bass? the Bisonic is a little noisier than those Fenders though, so maybe not. also I believe the reference to "adapt it to a SF II" is basically talking about the suck switch and caps/resistors etc that were added along with it. just a guess!

also again, catolog is 68- but it depicts a 1965 Jetstar bass, which was changed in 1966, and dicontinued thereafter; and makes the same reference to a "humbucking pickup..." i agree that is a little odd.

I remember drooling over this brochure when I was a pubescent teen. It was always the Starfires that quickenened my pulse. I note that the Duane Eddy is pictured with DeArmonds. I thought they were replaced with humbuckers earlier in the decade. Could this actually be from earlier or did Guild just stick with the same picture after they changed the way it was delivered?

great classic Guild catalogue. I like the "New Bluegrass flattop, introducing the D35 :)"
