Just scored this off of Reverb. Seller mentioned non original binding and/or issues with it “misaligned”. It arrives Saturday. NGD post coming soon.

Bravo DRC! Second hand Newark St. T-50s often exceed the price you paid - fingers crossed all the way!

Nice one! I’ve been really tempted by these lately… will follow your comments carefully. Just looks like such a great guitar!

What a price! Even if it needs some work, that's a great deal. Congrats!
In 2014 my band found one that looked extremely similar at Fanny's Music in Nashville. It was a 1956 I believe, Franz pickup like yours too, and even had the newly re-done white-ish binding and some other recent professional restoration work. As far as I know it still lives with a friend of mine in Jacksonville who loves it dearly and considers it to be his #1. In any case, for some great sound samples, this is the album we recorded that year and every track is that old Guild. Sometimes straight electric and sometimes electric & f-hole mic'd acoustic blended together.

It was scheduled to arrive yesterday, Saturday 08/12. UPS message “the delivery date will be provided as soon as possible”. I assume I’ll have it within a couple of days.

It has happened to me once in the past, but it had been shipped by Ishibashi Music and packed with utmost Japanese attention and care, so the guitar was unscathed.

It's worth noting that with EMS (Japanese express air mail) I have received items shipped from Japan in less time than others from the West coast..

Yikes! Is the guitar okay?! Kinda reminds me...
When I purchased my very rare 1970 M85-II bass, I fully expected it to come packed like a tank because the UPS Store themselves had packed it (professionally, of course, and for a premium, of course)... the same folks who entered the fully insured amount into the computer, so they knew exactly how valuable it was. Unfortunately, all they did was wrap one layer of bubble wrap around the hardshell case and then fold a piece of single-corrugated cardboard around it, which (completely flat and unfolded) was only about 4" longer than the case itself... so it was kind of like when you go to roll a burrito but accidentally overfill it, so neither end closes. Luckily, somehow it arrived safely! Maybe the carriers took pity on me, seeing how terribly incompetently the UPS Store had packed it?
Fact remains though, there is no chance in heck if a customer had packed a guitar like that and it was damaged in transit, that UPS would have done anything but laugh at an attempted insurance claim. I think their specifications for a properly packed guitar is something like 3" of qualified packing materials all the way around, as well as a fully stable, new shipping box. Needless to say, I'll never be asking UPS employees to pack a valuable instrument for me in the future... something that I had always thought was a good idea prior, since they're professionals, right? 😜

Unfortunately most people - whether "pro" or not - understand very little about packing properly. I forget the number of times when a recent purchase was delivered with the instrument freely moving inside the carton..
