Searching for the "perfect" strings for my JF55-12 Westerly, I just switched from Elixirs which I've been using for years to Thomastick Plectrum. Not sure they are the answer. Has anyone out there compared the Spectrum's to the Plectrums's? Elixirs to
other coated strings? I like to get as much in the way of overtones and bass as I can out of my strings. BTW, I tune to pitch. Thanks to all.

Spectrums are really interesting strings with a silk layer between the core string and the winding. I like the sound on my F-50R, but it's quite unique in the world of strings. I think Plectrums are similar (not sure)?

The warmest sound (to me) seems to come from Phosphor Bronze strings, Timbo. I don't know if you want coated strings or not, but for coated, I'd recommend going with D'Addario EXP PBs, and uncoated I'd go with John Pearse PB. (I also like the uncoated D'Addarios). PB will sound different from 80/20. I think you'll like the change.

Good luck.

I use Light gauge PB strings on my '06 F-412 and love 'em. I also tune down 1/2 step.

D'Addario EXP Phosphor Bronze Lights.
Coated but still sound great.
They don't last as long as Elixir's but sound better.

Thanks all, I appreciate it. I'll give the EXPs a try next time.
