What I love is that it never seems to happen with the imports.... what does that tell you??
Yeah, it doesn't even happen to made in Mexico Martins either
"Unlucky" in that where yours separated might have been in a more difficult spot, or, "unlucky" In that you got a poor repair. I know that it's a common and much talked about problem, I just don't consider it to be all that serious.
No, same spots (it's always the same spots - the waists -). You see it's a new thing that happens to guitars made after 2012 it seems. There has always been that sort of issues with Martin guitars, but it just became far more frequent after this moment...Celluloids bindings, and Boltaron too that shrink, combined to a new, too weak glue, (and possibly the effect of VTS [??] that wouldn't leave that little moisture which could reduce the issue - ??? -) made it much worse (this being said my Martin hasn't got VTS anyway)...
Not all luthiers have been used to it here yet (seems less frequent on STD models, that they usually only see). Boltaron (or others alike) on most STD, shrink about 3 times less than celluloids according to a renown American luthier, and not all can cope with it right yet...I had to pay a hundred euros 1st time, coz of some additional work on varnish cos of the issue, and it wouldn't hold (plus 50 euros too, just for a - little - neck setting), which would have been okay had it hold...
I'd be surprised to get a Martin again, as there are other makes that count these days (still happy with my Furch for instance). The Guild D-55 GSR would have more chances than a D-42, a Custom made or an Authentic that had tempted me pretty much some time ago...Those kind of prices for me, mean a life guitar, that you'd choose one time for good, and keep forever. If at least the Factory would want to do something.., but they seem to be willing to keep their glue, do nothing, and raise their prices instead (at least did they seriously rise again here, some weeks ago)...Pfouit
So back to the 70th Anv D-55...
