Starfire III tuners

2017 model; tuners feel both stiff and slack. The stiffness is pretty much like my D55 and is what I would
expect as you start to tune but then they become really slack. Any tips?

The tuners should be Grover Sta-Tite Open-Gear 18:1, right?

Loosen the strings, put some dry lube on the gear, you get it in bicycle shops. Use only dry lub, not a wet lube and no oil or grease. Work the tuners some time in both directions, restring and see if it improved.

FWIW, if there are no bike stores nearby, check a hobbies or crafts store like Michael's. Where the wooden car sits are (pincer or pinewood derby) there are small tubes of graphite powder.

Any hardware or Home Depot type store should have both dry Teflon lube and powdered graphite.
