A woman I used to work with got this from her father who was a U.S. Army colonel:

Never explain to someone how to do something so that they understand it. Explain it so that they cannot possibly misunderstand it.
Really like that one Crank

"In a country with honest government, poverty is a shame. In a country with corrupt government, wealth is a shame." Confucius

This (below) is what he said after looking it up ;) I do a lot of Confucius quotes like "Bicycle two tired to stand on its own" or "Man running behind car get exhausted" so excuse my previously posted version.

"In a country well governed, poverty is something to be ashamed of. In a country badly governed, wealth is something to be ashamed of." Confucius

A good farmer is outstanding in his field.

And to quote my wife talking about me:

"Bill has a strong grasp of the obvious"

A friend's wife on describing him -- paid what I think is the best "backdoor" compliment one could get. She said, "Mike would like to be mean, but his heart is too kind."

Some gems from Yogi Berra:

"Nobody goes there nowadays; it's too crowded."

“In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.”

Was it him who said;

"It's like Deja Vu all over again".

Probably my all time favorite quote, used quite often actually...

Then there's this one by Groucho;

"Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."

;)

Dawes? or did they quote someone else? genius for sure. that entire album is pure gold

Clueless as usual, Dawes is Rufus Dawes who commanded the Sixth Wisconsin at Gettysburg. But Google tells me it is also a band so... The George Harrison Song "Any Road" has that exact line and it is understood to be a paraphrase from Alice in Wonderland.
