Clueless as usual, Dawes is Rufus Dawes who commanded the Sixth Wisconsin at Gettysburg. But Google tells me it is also a band so... The George Harrison Song "Any Road" has that exact line and it is understood to be a paraphrase from Alice in Wonderland.
My favorite Yogi (Supposedly used whenever he gave directions on getting to his house) : "When you get to a fork in the road....take it."
