1997 S-100 For Sale!
Hi everyone.
I've come across a great deal on a Rickenbacker 12 string locally, so my '97 S-100 is up for grabs. Has a good amount of wear but she's all original and plays and sounds amazing. Comes with a non-original but really nice hardshell case. I'll also throw in a extra, new set of Rotosound nickel 11's.
Asking price is SOULED!. Please let me know if you're interested. I can also take and post more photos upon request.
Here's the original thread from when I got it, with photos and plenty of information:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14309
IMPORTANT: Even though the original thread states that the bridge pickup has been switched out, I have confirmed that it has not. If you scroll down in that thread, it turns out that one of the tilt-adjust tabs must have been lost; the pickup is original and was never removed.
Also, the loose half inch of binding on the neck has been cleanly repaired and is completely solid now.

Ehhhh I don't really want to... but I've wanted a Rickenbacker 12er since before I knew what a Guild was... maybe we could start a "help-ingo-keep-his-s-100-fund" ;)

That could snowball into a lot of other justifiable funds around here - like the help Geoff snag a '70/'71 Hagstrom S-100 for example. ;)

Just play it first! Ricks are known for having unpardonably narrow fingerboards.

Thanks for the heads up. I definitely plan on trying before buying. Narrow fingerboards are ususally okay for me though. One of my little folk trash acoustics that I love to play has a crazy narrow one... can't imagine anything much smaller

Hi Ingo; from Rickenbacker's 360/12 spec sheet: 1.63" at the nut (about 1 5/8" for the metrically challenged). I hope Mello won't need a finger-sharpener ...

Yes, I drool over the Rics at Chicago Music Exchange often.
Agree; probably the finest collection of Rics anywhere ... I just couldn't find a plastic surgeon who would taper my fingers or a finger-sharpener on eBay at a good price. Relative to the generous nut on Guild's acoustic 12-strings, the Rics necks are very narrow. Hans Moust was kind enough to advise that the most generous nut on an electric 12-string was on the '60s-era Epiphone Riviera 12-string ... but they are considerably more expensive than new or late-model Rics ... in the $2500-$4000 range.

Hi Mello: just trying to condition your expectations a little ... not discourage you. They are the only instrument on the planet that make that signature sound ... there really is nothing like it. My old gear was perfect for the Ric; loads of compression and crackly hot snap from the single coils ... and the workmanship is absolutely first class. I had a lot of fun with mine ... just a little disappointed that the neck was so demanding. Good luck on your deal, I hope it works out for you. J

Some of the newer Ricky 12's have a bit wider board.

Used to have a white w/black binding, chrome hardware 80's 620/12...nice guitar...guy that sold it couldn't play it.

Hi Jane; I feel his pain ... knowing how to play it was one thing ... playing it was another ... :( Thanks to the damping action of my Vienna Sausage fingers, I turned mine into 7 or 8 string ... still it had that sound and I don't regret having messed with mine at all. Any bites yet on your two-fer? John

Not really, John, thanks for asking.

Few local inquiries suggesting interest in one or the other but then not following through with an actual offer.

Talk is cheap.

Maybe I'll just set a record for the longest running LTG Great Guilds for Sale thread.

Yeah; not exactly a record you want to have ... the recent wildfires in SoCal ... near you?
