I can't stand Ryan Adams but his song La Cienega Just Smiled is just utterly amazing. Very simple, melancholy and the acoustic guitar moves me something very cool; understated, perfect piano and electric guitar, adds just the right emphasis. From his "Gold" album. All of the songs but this are incredibly pedestrian and uninspired IMO.
Halfway there! Now: What's a song you like by an act you don't?

Ah, I see this was a 2-part thread. So since I previously posted about an act I didn't like but a song I loved, I'll complete the assignmnet. Well, I really like virtually all of the Beatles music, but the White Album does have a number of tunes that are really ugly, like "Happiness Is A Warm Gun", and "Helter Skelter". The album would have been better for their exclusion.

Don't like Madonna - her "Hanky panky" was quite refreshing, when I first heard it.
Just heard the music and it was swinging - now that I read the words - they do not speak to me 😂

My all-time favourites Donovan - Dylan - Leo Kottke - even Joni Mitchell - all have some songs I just do not like.

Which one should I pick? 😏 - no way to make a good decision - so Dylan - Froggie Went a Courting - just - why ? ? ? 😂

big fan of Fleetwood Mac, but the song "The Chain" I could certainly live without, to put it nicely.

and one artist I am not so crazy about is Billy Joel. However, I have always really, really, liked "New York State of Mind," without question his best song.

Aha! Didn't know Bob had a version of "Froggie." No surprise, though. He's a walking encyclopedia of old folks songs.

Always got a kick out of the song when I was little, but I don't think I've heard it since the early sixties. Can't imagine how he'd sound singing it.

Mission accomplished. I've always loved the white album, but you're right, they probably could have gotten away with a single instead of a double.

Billy Joel songs rarely fail to annoy me, but I love the line "Have you heard about the new fashion, honey? All it takes is looks and a whole lot of money!"

I'd have to say "And So It Goes" is his best song, but tastes are different.

Love Warren Zevon, hate "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead"
Dislike Jimmy Buffett, like "Come Monday"

And "Until The Night" is Joel's best song/record, IMHO.

Yeah I could live without Madonna but I love "Beautiful Stranger" (Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me)

Love the Beatles. Cannot stand "Hey Jude".

For that matter love John Lennon but cannot stand "Imagine".

Ha!

I love John Lennon, but can't stand the whole album "Sometime in New York City" (Not counting the bonus disc of him and Zappa live).

I can't stand Yoko Ono's music, but love "Walking on Thin Ice".
