You're putting an XR-7 into a Nightingale?

My Nightbird has a DiMarzio Dual Sound in the bridge position. It's a (relatively) low-wind one, around 10.9 KOhms. Despite often thinking about replacing it I never get around to actually doing it. I have to admit it sounds pretty darn good in this particular guitar. And it interacts really well with my old Fender Deluxe when I want to sound Neil Young-ish. :) So I'd say go for it.

You're not the only person that likes them. What we like in pickups is, obviously, a personal thing.

I have a set on the shelf. I haven't gotten around to measuring them, but I remember that they are not especially high output as I expected. However they do have a very unique sound.

I'm glad you're happy!

I actually just wrote about the XR-7s in my 1981 M-80 review. http://www.gad.net/Blog/2016/11/08/guild-1981-m-80/

I was surprised that they were only 8.xk and a bit chimier than I expected. I like the way they sound. Personally I wouldn't like the look of the open coils on a Nightingale, but thinking about it, did it come with EMGs? From a sound perspective, I'd choose the XR-7s over EMGs, too.

I swapped the EMGs for golden HB-1s waxpotted with splitcoil a few years ago, but the bridge Pickup always sounded a bit weak and thin. now the volume balance is perfect and the XR-7 adds a great beefy and gritty but defined lead rock sound. I prefer the gold covers too, but sound to me is more important than looks.
