Looking to buy a Starfire IV, preferably vintage but will definitely consider a Reissue. Prefer a Walnut or Burst finish but Red/other is also ok. Harp tailpiece of hardtail not an issue, prefer without bigsby. If you have one for sale please let me know. Thanks.

EDIT- I wanted to make a topic for a while where I called upon you guys to help me locate the one! I wasn't sure if that was acceptable or not but if it isn't I am sure you guys will let me know fast!

This is the one I had my heart set on, but then the ebay seller sold it to this guitar shop. I dont think the price is negotiable into a decent range though.

http://www.gbase.com/gear/guild-starfir ... 9-sunburst

Let's say my price limit is $2000, but ideally i'd rather find one for $1200-1500. If you guys see anything that might fit the criteria above and be in my price range let me know! Thanks in advance as always.

Worth calling them. Gbase is well known for unrealistic high prices that are often negotiated down to normal prices.

You might get an LTG'er up there to visit the shop in person. Maybe you can try out your cash-in-hand theory through an intermediary.

TonyT said he will check it out for me sometime. I did speak with the shop owner via email and he wasn't budging, so once Tony gives it a look and play I will go from there about contacting them directly. Maybe I am wrong but $3000 seems absurdly priced. I just imagine the price already being so high the negotiable price will still be a bit too much. I wish I had just paid the original owner $1700 to begin with.

No you don't. I'm sorry but that's still a $1200 guitar. $1500 TOPS if it's the absolute ONE you must have. He will have that guitar for 30 years at $3000, at which point it will be properly priced.

I've watched Les Paul R9s for the past two years. They've gone from $4000 used to $3000 used on the forums. People are not selling because the used market has tanked. While that Starfire does look mint, It was a $1200 guitar a year ago and it's a $1200 guitar now, and that's only because it's in stellar condition.

Dealers who stubbornly overprice irritate me almost as much as late 90s Fender HB1s. He's holding out for some rich guy that "has to have it". I've seen Starfires go for $900. Hold out man. You'll fine the one.

I just bought a sought-after 90s Les Paul Special on TGP. These go for $1200 all day long on Ebay. I got it for $750 because I was there, I had cash, and I was quick. Gotta be patient and let the big over-priced stuff float away. Wasn't meant to be as my mother likes to say (yeah - that irritates me too) :)

Check steilberg string instruments website. They are located in Louisville ky. I stopped by there last week and checked out a starfire 4 there that was on consignment . The tuners have been changed and has a coiltap added with an aftermarket humbucker at the bridge. It has the original case and it is real clean. No rash. I think it's a 1997. 502 491 2337. I was dealing with a guy named Andrew and he said the guy selling it would take 1300.00. It played real sweet, had a full feeling neck. It is exactly what I am wanting but I want the blocks instead of dots and I am also trying to sell 2 guitars now to fund my wants . Just thought you might want to check it out.

GAD you're right man, at that rate he will have it for years r either some guy will come in and just drop the dough on it. Still difficult to watch it sit there unowned and unplayed knowing I would give her a good home! :) Hopefully the seller will come to his senses and play let's make a deal. I noticed that all of his guitars on gbase are way overpriced, but maybe if Tony is in house he will actually deal.

hey lavern, thanks for the heads up. I checked their website and it looks like that SFIv has had some changes like knobs and bridge pup which is ok, although i like the original pups pretty well. For a reissue the most I would spend is $1000 since that seems to be the ebay rate for them. Just out of curiosity what color was it?

The record eBay price that I have seen for a Starfire bass was about $3,500 for a '67 SF I in pretty good shape. At the time CME had a '67 in stock with the Hagstrom PU replaced by the 1970's humbucker for $4,500. The CME bass also had significant wear although nothing beyond what was reasonable for the age. I note that it is no longer listed a couple of years later so they either had the patience to wait for their price, sold it for less or are too embarrassed to ask for that kind of money in today's market. My guess is that CME has deep pockets and can afford to wait for top dollar. There will always be someone who "has to have it" and price will not be an object.

So based on my experience I would try and negotiate with CME but not expect success.

Sadly, this is the same feedback I have gotten from 5 different people now.

I've been there man, I've been there.

I had to learn to let the crazy-priced ones go when they're EXACTLY what you want. When you start to consider putting off your kid's braces so you can score that $5000 guitar, it's time to step away from the keyboard.

...or so I've heard.

Remember too, that when you pay too much, you'll never get that money back. The X170T in my avatar? I think I payed something like $1600 for it. It was mint, and I NEEEEEEDED it. Today I think I'd be lucky to get $1200 for it. GAS is a horrible disease. What you absolutely must have today will be trade fodder a year from now for something you need even more.

...or so I've heard. :)

It is blond and the original knobs are in the case. I remembered after my post that the pickup added is a Duncan. It is a really clean a straight piece with exception to the mods. I think they were originally asking 1500.
