Been listening to the freezing sleet hitting the house the past two hours.

We have maybe 2" of snow overnight that is now encapsulated with a nice layer of ice. I just love getting up early and scapping windshields and cutting a path in the driveway through all that wet heavy stuff.

Luckily the ice is suspended over the snow so it is much easier to clean off the car vs. plain ice on the widows.

No travel today but we're open at work.

We have 45 degrees and should get up to around 50, sunshine with occasional breeze. No ice or snow on the vehicles. Summer is hot here but winter is certainly easy. Is it a good trade off? For now, yes, but ask me again in June, July, and August.

Wishing the best to everyone dealing with ice and snow. Be careful and stay warm! And, Cougar, no repeats of sliding down the mountain, okay?

Been walking on ice and if you're lucky slush during the middle of the day for quite some time now.

Each step is a careful thing.

Not falling a badge of honor.

If you can make it a whole winter without falling once, you're doing very well.

My driveway is "fun" when it snows. It's like a bobsled run. Fortunately it gets a lot of sun so it dries up pretty quick if I get it blown early. Behind me in this shot is another big area; driveway, parking pads etc. that adds to the fun. Today's fun was mostly heavy slushy stuff, (this photo is a few years ago) but my Ariens was up to the task. Not sure I want to (or should) do this past 70. I have four years to figure that out.

I have the same machine! Haven't used it yet but boy this morning it felt like I was shoveling sand. Heavy wet gunk. I can[t justify firing it up for less than 5 inches.

As for doing it at 70, my wife's aunt is 83, she does hers...although it is only 100' +/- and mows her lawn....yours looks like a part time job!

Keep moving...keeps ya young!

I had to get JB in motion, 1st time in 2 winters, even got paid by a lady down the road where I go to turn the beast around, quickie clean out, but I do it like an artist wielding a big brush, and miss her car ;]

Leaving the yard, threading the needle with a 8' 6" blade ;]

Near grazing mailboxes with utility box pulls.

It got wild this winter.

So, the truck, with chains on all six tires would clean out that driveway in about as fast as it takes to drive down the hill, with the heater on full blast, but then I might have to go a mile to turn around ;]

Snowed 5" here last week. The association shovels up the driveway to the front door. They had it done before I even got out of bed. Works for me!

So I got home last night around 7, there was a fresh 5-6 inches of heavy stuff on the driveway. I had shoveled it out that morning so there were no ruts from tire traffic, figured this would be perfect!

Now I just bought it over the summer, Ariens 30 EFI, nice machine, it came with the shroud and as my driveway faces west it would come in handy to block the wind.......well...it also "blocks" the headlight. The damn headlight is inside the plastic fairing and shines right on the frosty "window". So I ended up doing the driveway hunched over peering through the handlebars and he windscreen/fairing.

So, do I disengage the light...or remove the fairing? Or...put extensions on the chassis and rig two Cibie 6000k Oscars...heck they'll MELT the snow!

Our street is like driving through a minefield. 4-5" of snow, didn't get plowed, then it rained and of course people drove all over it, then if froze solid and has remained so for a few days now. Unusual set of circumstances.

That is why I am a bit anal about trying to get as much out of the driveway before we drive on it. The ruts freeze and the plow we hired would never get them out. Now with a snowblower and a shovel instead of a hired plow I rule my own asphalt universe!

I spent an hour and a half this morning scraping as it is going to 40+ degrees today...then below zero for a few days. Should be black and dry when I get home ready for the next snow dump
