I was window shopping for an archtop a few years ago and made a collage of sorts for easy visual comparison.
I had it narrowed down to these:

Guildmark,
Nice!

Besides Lacey - here are a couple of other Guild alumni builders worthy of your collage

The black one ain't going anywhere for a while I hope. :|

Midnite isn't at all likely to return, ever. Jerry's likey to hang in for a while & his family by now surely consider it Grampa's guitar.

Obviously, there is a story behind the "on loan" part that I was unaware of.....and I sincerely apologize......... I didn't know. The only reason I mentioned the black D25 was that I was looking for one before I recently picked up a D25M.......

When I have a guitar of mine listed as "on loan" it usually means that one of my friends has absconded with it....... for no other reason other than I let them..........

No hard feelings I hope??? I REALLY had no clue.

Real sweet story behind this one Dan. I can't find the original thread but if you look back for a thread titled something like "Today I saw a grown man cry" or something similar.

Good read, good guy Jeff. :D

Dan,

No hard feelings at all, made me grin at myself. I'd be willing to part with the D25 & put the $ on an Archtop.

I loaned it to a fella, he's a patient in a local nursing home.

Jerry's his name & misery's his game. Jerry's a great player much better than me, a Pro & a talented vocalist, plays a lot of John Denver.

Not sure I can ever bring myself to ask for it back. One of the few joys in his life.

You're a great man Jeff. I'm a firm believer that the better we can make others lives, the better ours will be.

I recommend you add Les Korn to your list of premium builders. He makes absolutely beautiful archtops. Perhaps not as "discovered" as a few other luthiers, you can occasionally see a mint condition Les Korn Jazz Purist model on eBay in the $3300 range.

Web page here:

Sound sample here:

Others: Triggs, Moll.

George

p.s.
Saw a Benedetto Johnny Smith Award Model sell for $3,476 on ebay last week -- that almost gave me a GAS attack!

You guys have all suggested some names I didn't know! Awesome archtops. Elegant and competetively priced. Very cool. Thanks!

Any more?
