Never realized what a treasure Mellencamp was until more recently, so much competition back then. Serious competition. His songs have aged incredibly well, a snapshot in time of America, which is what he intended. Mission accomplished.

Just learned that song a few months ago. Also, "Hurts So Good" and "Jack and Diane". I agree 100%, I never appreciated him before.

Nuthin' 'gainst Mellencamp, and always liked his songcrafting and the fact they were written for acoustic-based performance, but can't ever hear the title "Little Pink Houses" without recollecting an Animals tune with a similar title, which has also aged incredibly well:
