It's true that we get more than our share of rain here in the Northwest and that the sky is often gray, but it's those windows of sunshine we patiently await.

Looking east toward the Twin Sisters, the leading edge of the North Cascades.

Enjoy,

Joe: I think all that Jefferson Airplane nostalgia has you trying to remember an era that none of us can! Cool pic though!

You sure do take beautiful pictures, Joe.

I enjoy every one of them.

Thanks for giving us all a peep at the beautiful area you live in. :D :D

Joe,

How does one get anything done out where you live? If I was there, I'd be staring out the window all the time. If I do there where I currently am sitting, all I can see is the concrete shell of the Metrodome, now known as "Mall of America Field." The only thrill in that is when, after a particularly heavy show, they have guys on the fabric roof shoveling or blowing the snow off so it doesn't collapse.

Do you ever root for the snow?

What a beautiful shot! Savor the moment, you probably won't get another shot like that 'til about April :D

But, that's why they call it the "Evergreen State" :D You ever go hiking on the Hoh River Trail in the Olympic Rainforest, Joe? It's like being in the Enchanted Forest  Mattress thick moss, ferns 6-8' tall, 200+' Douglas Firs, rain slugs 8-10" long that slither up the side of your tent :D

Beautiful Cascades photo, Joe.

My son, Boots, attends an outdoor preschool, (outdoors, all the time, rain or shine,) where he learns all about edible and medicinal plants. He has licked slugs and claims they have a tongue numbing effect. I take his word for it.

It's too bad the slugs aren't edible! Bound to be a recipe out there somewhere.
Joe
If they're banana slugs they don't really taste like bananas, take my word for it. We have 'em down here too. It's the official school mascot for UC Santa Cruz (No Joke)
The recipe is a closely guarded Indian shaman secret last revealed to Jim Morrison. When I tried it something went wrong and I've never been the same since. :D Much like the notorious Australian Cane Toad, numb tongue will be the least of your worries. :(

All I know is if you pick up one of these slugs you're gonna play hell trying to get the slime off your fingers, short of using some type of industrial solvent  They leave trails of the stuff...

I used to live on one of the local Islands in the early 70s one summer day there was a large slug crawling across the logging road I was walking. I took an alder leaf and placed it in his way, the silence was brilliant. almost surreal... I crouched silently, the withdrawn antennae on the slug came back out, so he thought it was safe....I was not a threat. He came to the leaf, hesitated then the leaf was about to have a bite out of it..it was so quiet that I heard what sounded like CRUNCH.... and I picked up the leaf....there it was...a perfect bite out of its edge...who knew...it was really precise ....if it had been a lot larger it might have looked like a lettuce leaf with a people bite taken out of it....it was a special moment, and....if you ever get the opportunity....... 8) :D Steffan

Wasn't that the time the local shaman gave you some of his special toad/mushroom soup, Steffan?

Al, now that's funny. It just is surreal to see people up there, standing on a fabric roof that, I believe, is 194 feet above the field it covers. Wouldn't catch me up there.
