There is a rather substantial amount of red spruce in Labrador. It isn't going to all be harvested any time soon, as getting it from Labrador to any place that can use it is not an easy task (out in the middle of nowhere, with not many roads to get there). However, because of this, the wood can no longer be described as "rare" or "scarce".

It was the wide necks that I couldn't handle.
Those Double Truss Rods made for very wide necks.

I have never played a new Guild 12 String, with the single Truss Rod.
To be truthful, I don't even want to try one.
I may like it and I'm trying very hard to not buy any more guitars.

Merry Christmas 12 streets no other people make them sound nice. Cocobolo rules

I'm not sure what that was supposed to say, I think I was trying to say I don't like the sound of 12 Strings when I play them, but other people make them sound good. anyway cocobolo is a great wood

Oh, I see!!! Yeah, I hadn't thought about that issue, TMG. Although my F-412 has the single truss rod with two flanking, fixed carbon rods... The neck feels very similar to my (2 truss rod) F-512, TMG. I don't know if the dimensions changed much when they went to the new system in 2007. In any case, you keep trying not to buy more, and we'll keep trying to enable you to do it. :D :D Best wishes.

Hey, very good to know that red spruce is not endangered or anything. I live in a forest of pine trees, and while I realize California's redwoods and even Alaska's spruce's can become rare resources, it's hard for me to envision it happening. :)

The 412 is what I would pick up and play first...if only to compare it to my New Hartford 412 I brought home from LMG IV.

I would love to see Guild produce an 8 string standard tuned guitar much like their new 8 string Baritone guitar.
That would be a very versatile instrument.
Lots of tuning options and string gauge choices for one.
O course this would need to have the same 1 3/4" nut width as their Baritone has, for me to like it.
The scale length would need to be shorter than the Baritone which is fine.

I think Alvarez makes a non-baritone 8 string......nothing super high end, but still interesting.

More thread drift:

So after picking up my 412 I decided to bring to our gig this Sunday. I was just going to play the G37. This is my first official gig in 12-months and the first official gog with my new jam grass band. Should be fun.

Gonna play Dozen on:
Willin"
Are You Lonesome Tonight
Summertime
Babylon
Death Don't Have No Mercy
Banana Republic

The more that I think about it, I can just put a set of Heavy Gauge strings on my Baritone and tune it to D.
No need for the other 8 string.

With a normal 6 string guitar E to E is standard tuning.
Drop down one full step and the guitar is tuned to D to D.
Capo back up 2 frets and you back to standard tuning.

With the Baritone, I can tune to D to D with Heavy Gauge regular strings for a lower register and capo up when I'm playing with other guitars that are in Standard E to E tuning.

A normal Baritone is tuned even lower at B to B with very heavy gauge strings.
You need to capo the Baritone 5 frets to be back to E standard tuning.

Dave, The long scale on a baritone makes it easy to fret even with heavy gauge strings.
My 12 string problems are the neck's width.
Anything wider than 1 3/4" is too much for me to fret these days.
I can only play a 12 string for about 15 minutes and then my left [fretting] hand starts to hurt and cramp.
I can play my 8 string baritone for a good hour before I feel pain coming on.
Much like it does with my 6 string guitars.

TMG, be careful you're not exceeding the designed tension limits, is all. I think Glenn was asking to sort of determine what Guild expected your tuning to be. With heavy strings tuned to pitch in D (whole step down, that is) I suspect you'll be fine.... Just check the numbers.
