Read Keef's book a year or so ago. There are good Chuck Berry and Frank Zappa bios out there as well

On the other hand, I found Neil Young's so rambling and incoherent that I couldn't get through it. Like his contributions to Buffalo Springfield, CSN&Y and some of his solo stuff, but couldn't hang with that book.

Interesting. I'm a huge Neil Young fan. In terms of songwriting he's probably my top influence. Was planning to pick up this book and probably still will, but thanks for the heads up... I will do my best to prepare myself mentally before diving in!

I loved reading "Ted Templeman: A Platinum Producer's Life in Music" - he produced the Doobie Bros., Van Halen, and lots of others, as well as being a musician early on (Harpers Bizarre)

I'll be curious to see if you react to it as I did. I'd send it to you if I still had it, but am pretty sure I already gave it away. I'll PM you if it turns up, but I'm pretty sure it's gone. See if you can find a copy in your local library before you spend money on it.

(edited to add):
Just to be clear: the book I'm referring to is titled, "Waging Heavy Peace" (2013). I see there's another biographical book about him titled "Shakey". Haven't read that one so can't offer an opinion about it.

The only musician autobio I ever read was one by Hector Berlioz (two volumes). From what I remember it was hilarious! He was so anti-music-establishment, iirc! I don't remember alot about it but do I remember laughing alot and thinking he was really funny and down to earth. It was a cool insight into the thought of a person from so long ago.
