I need to replace the treble tone pot in my Guild amp. It's a 3 meg pot, anybody know for certain if they're linear or log? Thanks.

Based on the circuit it's in, I'd guess linear, but that's not necessarily how ears work.

Be aware that most 3 meg pots sold for guitar amps are actually reverse-analog (used in Fender tremolo circuits).

From vacation googling, I'd say that these are audio/logarithmic taper pots. I would look for the proper pot at Mouser, or the like, or you could try the Fender pot and swap the two outer connections.

Alternatively, it looks like the bass pot is also a 3 meg of unspecified taper. Seeing as neither is specified, they're likely the same. Check the resistance on the bass pot at 50%, and that should tell you a lot.

Remember, this is a boost-cut, not a simple cut like Fender. Flat response is at 12 o'clock.
Right, they're both balance pots, sorta Big Muff style. It's why I figured they're linear. 50% on either side at 50% rotation.

Turns out the pot is fine, one of the pot terminals had bent up just enough to touch an adjacent terminal causing the problem.
