Interesting. I am sure it did not leave the factory like that but it is possible that the mods are not as extensive as it appears, if that is circa 1977. There were several basses from that time that used the JS asymmetric double cutaway body with a collection of "furniture" from basses that were later and were the replacement. I get enough of a sense of deja vu about the pickguard that I can believe this guitar used some parts because they were available. maybe not, but that's what I am reminded of :)

Hey, what if you could run it as a giant PBass like humbucker?

The p'ups look vintagish to me, Gibson with covers off, this is probably an old mod, because no one in this day and age would do this.
