I was thinking of starting a thread about what strings Guild players use, and lo and behold!

I've had my D35 for about two months now and I've strung it up with DAddario EJ16s. Sounds excellent, I believe. I'm sorta in that place now where I want to experiment with different strings. Good strings are difficult to find in my country. The ones I've seen here (the ones that are worth mentioning anyway) are DAddarios, Elixirs, Martins, and even then, the variety of those are very very limited. We don't get DAddario EJ19, for example.

Anyway, I've heard great things here about the John Pearse + Guild combination, but we don't get John Pearse here, unfortunately. :( I've been wanting to try them out, but the only way to get those is by ordering them from the US. So I've thought about ordering 5 to 10 sets just to save on shipping costs.

So, yeah, I wanna know if those are worth getting in bulk. :D

John, that's a tough call. While you're experimenting, it's better not to buy bulk in case you don't like 'em. Personally, I love 'em, but...

Can't you order from StringsAndBeyond.com and get a few different sets shipped to the Phillipines? Is that too expensive?

That being said, if you didn't like the JP strings and you ordered extra sets, there are plenty of us stateside who'd be willing to buy 'em off you (but you'd probably lose money).

So to sum it up the D'Addario strings are most common. The EJ16's are the most used.. I will try them after I've tried the EJ 26's.

What is the difference between the two strings, can anyone tell me? The EJ26 are Phosphor Bronze with warm, bright % balanced tone.

EJ-16 gauge range is .012 - .053

EJ-26 gauge range is .011 - .052 (slightly lighter, at least at the high & low E strings)

D'Addario's website probably lists the gauge of each string in those two sets.

FYI, juststrings dot com is having a D'Addario EXP sale; buy two sets, get one free. http://www.juststrings.com/expspecial.html

Thanks Geoguy for the information! I will definitely check juststrings.com and buy me a pack (or two!)

That's real good deal on the "buy two get one" free for the EXP's.

Elixir PB nano -- 12's. They last indefinitely and have very nice big tone.

I also like D'Addario PB but they do not last as well....

I used Cleartones for a while because the tone was just balls ... but only for a short while (coated but ineffectively so).

Occasionally I use Elixir 80/20 bronze. Great feel, easy on the hands and a nice tone, but thinner (tone) than the PB....

I know whenever we have these threads there is not a lot of love for Elixir -- but I keep coming back to them again and again.

John pearse makes a good string for most applications whether you like 80/20's, PB,whatever.Try the pb and silk light/mediums.I love them on a maple jumbo.I've said it (and read it here) before;never used strings that went on in tune, and stayed that way better than the John Pearse.

I have 1972 Guild D-50 -I purchased at Manny's in NY. 1972 . I have tested a lot of strings on this guitar. I ordered Thomastik-Infeld sb113 Spectrum Bronze ...The strings do cost a little more but to me they are the best strings for this guitar the clarity and balance is amazing. I also got the Peterson clip on tuner and used the sweetener for acoustic guitar

I have tried the ELIXIR NANO 80/20 on my D-50 and they sound good forever. But I'll try the PB next time, from what you've experienced.

I've got JP's on all the guitars. However, the march madness sale from Strings and Beyond prompted me to try the Tony Rice signature strings by Martin. Haven't put 'em on yet but I'll let ya'll know. It's hard to beat the JP's.

Peace
