I found my DV 62 hanging on the wall in a local shop two years ago, At that time I knew virtually nothing about Guild guitars. Played it in the shop for about 45 minutes, seemed like the "Real Deal" . NIce rosewood back, not glorious but nice, the top is a very nice silky spruce top, gold Grovers & I liked the understated elegance of the herringbone trim. Negotiated the price a bit, shopkeeper offered it to me for $800 & he'd pay the tax. Seemed to me, a nice value on a US made Rosewood guitar so I dropped the debit card on the counter & took her home.
Turns out it was a good decision, haven't needed the $800 so far & it's a sweet guitar. It needed some tweaking & it cost me another hundred or so to have some frets replaced & the action adjusted. Sweet player, has a full, rich voice, not particularly loud for a Drednaught size guitar, action is low & she doesn't like to be hammered. I've played several new Tacoma built D 55's & haven't found one I'd prefer to my DV 62, not so sure I feel the same way about the Tacoma D40 BJ's.
An exceptionally nice, near mint, DV62 on Ebay sold for $1500 - $1600 not long ago, don't quote me on that price but it was a handsome price, substantially more that I'd figure an average DV62 is worth. Dollar is in the dumper & they don't come up often, so I could be wrong. Had the offer been for mine I would have accepted.
The V in DV 62 indicates vintage design features, scalloped braces under the spruce top I'm told is one of those features.
Here's a link to a thread when I showed up here in March 2006 with my newly purchased Guild Rosewood. There are also quite a few DV52 discussion threads in back posts. Use the search function in the upper right to search for DV52, DV 52, DV52 fan club & you should be able to find some interesting talk.
