I was with you up to the 76 lbs. You should continue to be amused that your former Line 6 goes everywhere (fits in the car better than the Pilot in the case does) and held its own as the only bass amp at LMG III.

Glad to hear the Line 6 is still getting lots of love!
Wish I could have made it to LMG III, but being the weekend before mid-terms week and considering gas prices... maybe LMG IV! After all, I'll finally be done with school by then 8)

Starving musician, instead of starving student?

Check out the Open Mic videos from LMG III. Kurt and I used it with my Pilot and Sandy used it with his green Starfire II.

It amuses me to no end that it was the smallest amp on the stage by a factor of at least two.

I won't identify the people "in the open" but the amp is almost hiding in the upper right.

That's sweet. The Sound City looks to be narrower than the later models? I almost bought a later SC 200, but it was 30" wide. Sorta cumbersome on top of 24" wide cabs.

Putting that aside, your amp is a rare gem!

FWIW - Earlier tonight I played trhough a Bass Terror and two Epifani 12" cabs. My lightweight rig. I don't like the sound of the Eps cabs. But it it hardly matters since the place has a great sound system.

thanks,
it is rare, a real blast and around 27,5" wide.
just at the doctor to replace the old caps. 8)

:D

what don't you like about the epi's? my guess would be they don't match the orange that well.

The cabs don't sound good (to my ears) when paired up with an Orange tube head, a Sunn 200s or the Bass Terror. My pair of 15" Orange cabs just sound much better with any amp head. MORE OOMPH. (I don't play with a particularly bassy tone either.)

 I've found that many bass players don't like any criticism of modern cabs. Perhaps the light weight overwhelms their ears. But with a good FOH system, it doesn't really matter.

I don't care, I let my ears justify. :D
I was just curious, because I know a guy who has a good taste in sound and loves his pair of 12er epi's with his markbass and aggi 359 amps.
but epis would not have been my choice for your amps either. :D

Whatever. As the Monkey God often reminds us, you play with what you have and make the best of it.

I posted this pic for the bass, now I can post it for the amp!

It's the new GK MB112-II - I was really surprised when I tried it out in the store - nice deep full sound, very light, and less than $400! I haven't had a chance to really put it through its paces, but at a small jam with drums, guitar & bass (someone else playing my Alembic through the GK and me on drums) it performed quite well.

im using a V4B with a B40 cab. i definitely love tube tone and feel. just recently picked up a sansamp driver deluxe and really like that as an addition as well. the sound engineers like it too.

mainly playin my 68 SFII, but also have a handful of 70s japanese bass' and a couple P-bass' that get used from time to time.

Anyone ever try newer speakers in the old ampeg cabs? i was thinking of trying something that can handle some more power in an attempt to get some more presence and clarity.

Mid 60's WEM valve piggy-back (1x15) and Jet star.

That little fella has the look of the Gulld Thunderbass I played for a while in the later 60s. A handsome looking rig all around. Is the WEM a tube head?

Whoever bought it did really well IMO.
Hopefully the amp is in better shape than that poor Hoefner bass though! That neck is BOWED big-time!

But those look like awesome amps! The best tone I ever got from an amp was from my 1968 Guild Thunderstar Bass amp. Two 6L6's that somehow left every and any Fender 6L6 amp that I've tried in the dust. And that's certainly not to say I can't appreciate a good Bassman. Guild just somehow perfected the 50watt tube bass amp IMO.

Here's a demo of the amp. Dearmond Starfire bass (with DarkStars), through the Thunderstar, through an Avatar 1x12. Unbelievable tone!

Hey Mellowest One,

That's just a beautiful tone. And, may I add, some nice playing (styling/technique) on top of that.

Alas, back in that era a pseudo 50 watt bass amp was no match whatsover for a couple of guitarists with Fender Twins or Supers. Or worst of all, guys with two of them! Yes, I played with or, should I say, against guys with two (2) Twin Reverbs or two (2) Super Reverbs. A Bassman or even the Guild Thunderbass later didn't stand a chance. No DIs or miked amps back then.

That's why the Sunn 2000s was so welcomed. As was the Acoustic 360. But it also explains why those wretched Kustom amps were snapped up. Krikey, my bass player rival in town and I would lend each other our rigs so we could each use two amps, just to try to be heard.

Was that so bad ...... NOPE!!! Sometimes I wish I was back in that era rather than playing on stage where some FOH guy believes that the bass should be seen and not heard. Even through the monitors.

Thanks for the kind words Happy!

The best sounding amp that let me be heard in any situation (in fact, on a 1x15 cab I never turned the volume past 11o'clock, even at bigger gigs) was my Fender Bassman 300... 300watts of tube power... CRAZY. And 80+ lbs

Alembic F2B-> Grace Design M103-> QSC CX1202V-> fEARful 15/6/1. I'm done with searching for a better rig. Perhaps a lighter power amp at some point, but this thing is amazing. Sorry that the rig is cutoff on the side. Sitting on top of it is my in ear rig, which is actually my location recording setup: two Metric Halo ULN-8s and an RME Octamic.
