Hello

I got this ad from Stewmac on my screen https://www.stewmac.com/Hardware_an...er_Pins_2_0/Reviews/Lowest/Page1.html#reviews

I think there is a CLAIM - cleverly disguised in text - " . . . The Power Pins also reduce the break angle of the strings behind the bridge, making playability easier. . . ." I use the word disguised because I can not see how lower brake angle would have anything to do with anything on the other side of the saddle.

In contrary - I can imagine lower brake angle produce less pressure on saddle - leading to lesser volume and poorer sound.

Then there are some "Customer Reviews" - like the one telling how 150USD guitar turns into 1000USD sound guitar just like that . . . Plus there are only full 5-star reviews - go figure.

This is not to bash Stewmac - they do have some nice stuff - and some other stuf is . . . well - up to each . . .

Naturally I do understand, that they are there to sell their products to us - and therefore try to convince us with anything.

That's an interesting product. I am intrigued. I haven't seen anything like that before. I think you'd have to try it, Nuuska, and see for yourself.

Stuff like this could seriously change the tone of your guitar. Better or worse would be subjective, but whether it takes away from the volume or overtones could certainly be measured.

I agree, Nuuska. Less break angle is less desirable. Less break angle is what a short saddle gives you, which is not what anyone should be looking for. I notice none of the reviewers mention anything about the break angle.

I finally got busy last night and did a clean/polish/condition on the Myrtlewood Breedlove (the one that's for sale) and a string change!! Such a beautiful guitar, to look at AND hear. WHO NEEDS BRIDGE PINS??? Not me......

Interesting. I wouldn't have the technical knowledge to take an educated guess on what effect these might have, but I do see they are available on Amazon for cheaper and there are 175 (mostly positive) reviews, plus quite a few answered questions. At least some of that must be legit! (First post here, hello!)

They been around for a while . Been lots of folks going to the brass pins and saddle set up also .

If installed right the break angle should remain the same . They get good reviews but I for one can't say I like the 5% George Jetson look on a 95% primitive instrument . Lol

I'll stick with Fozzilised walrus pins . 😁

To each his own but I don't like the aesthetics and I've never found string changes to be that much of a chore anyway

Seriously, I love my Tusq "Presentation Style" pins, they fit perfectly and they maintain the proper break angle.

Got a set of these on right now.

And a set of these.

I keep the original white with black dots in a bag (I tried the wood-tone ones first but, maybe cause I'm used to the white plastic, I put the new white ones on and kept them).

Rayk, those are sweet. Look like marble. Where'd you get 'em?

As far as the original gadget-thing goes, lord help me, but between the positive reviews and the idea it might make my music machine last longer by distributing the tension across the wood I'm actually considering it. I do most of my playing for myself inside a tiny home office and my wife already complains about the "noise," but sometimes I can't help myself.
