I’m on the hunt for another Westerly made Guild and I was wondering what years the Westerly facility was in use. Does 1967 to 2001 sound about right? Thanks for the help.

Yep. Here's a random article with the dates.

According to Mr. Moust, the first Guild left the line in Westerly in August of 1967.....and yes, Westerly closed in 2001.

Superb book, you'll love it. Hans has a great photographer, I think he does some of it himself too. A very comprehensive book. I keep a hard cover on the shelf and a softcover as a reference on my desk.

I'm looking forward to it. I figure I've become enough of a fixture around here I should read up on it and stop saying things Hans has to correct so often! ;)

Like, by the way - my DEC1 being from 2001. I didn't really try to date it or ask Hans. But since we're talking about it, that one really is from the end of Westerly. Of course if Hans hadn't chimed in I would have had to wait for volume two.

Keep in mind though that Volume I ends in 1977, so the last 14 years at Westerly aren't covered. We're ALL waiting for the release of Volume II.....won't be long I think. As long as they keep moving, Hans will have to keep writing books. :D

FWIW I'd take a guild from any location- Hoboken, Westerly, Corona, Tacoma, or New Hartford without worrying about quality issues or one location making superior guitars to the others.

I look for the model that suits my requirements- wood, body style etc, and then age/condition, and have no regard for place of "manufacture".

Exactly right, West! I think the purchase of Tacoma might've been in 2004, but I'm pretty sure first guitars off the line were in 2005.

I don't know if there was even any overlap between Corona and Tacoma. Same about Westerly to Corona.

I *do* know there was overlap (from Hans' book) for a couple of years between Hoboken and Westerly.
