Not too polished, but to give you some backround, my grandson was born with a whole host of birth defects almost 2 years ago. After having undergone 5 major surgeries in 2 years, including open heart surgery, his prognosis is to lead a perfectly normal life. Jackson has spent about 3 months of his first 20 in Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth. After having seen the miracles that the physicians and staff perform at Cook, I honestly can't think of a more worthy cause, and I mean that.

Having said that, my favorite Texas country singer/songwriter has helped put together a fundraiser that began many years ago, and continues to this day. The event is called "Pickin' for Preemies" and was put together by Walt and some others, including Pat Green, for the benefit of Cook Children's Hospital. This is Walt doing a brief advertisement for the event that he has been so much a part of for so many years. My favorite Texas country singer/songwriter, performing my favorite Walt Wilkins song, written by Walt and to top it off, played on a Guild F50R.

Great story and video, West! Glad to hear Jackson has done so well!

Is there a link about the event where one might make a donation?

I had never heard of him until Woody posted something a while back. I have bought 3 or 4 of his CD's now and I love this guy. There's somethin' about these Texas guy musicians. I'd really love to see him in a small venue someday. I'm not sure who the female singer he uses is but she is superb as well.

There really are some very down to earth, sincere and wonderful musicians around. He, apparently, is one of them..

Richard, Walt plays every first Sunday at Luckenbach, just out side of Fredericksburg, Tx. Come on down. Anytime we spend time in Fredericksburg, we always schedule it to catch Walt at Luckenbach. I've spent several Sunday afternoons, sitting under the oaks, drinking an ice cold Corona, listening to Walt play.

Walrus, I think the event was cancelled last year due to covid. Seems like it's normally held in August or September. But here's a link directly to the hospital, and thank you.

And another Texas boy making it in country music. Cody is from Huntsville. Cody previously had been a guard at the state prison in Huntsville. I'll bet playing music is much more fun.

And a Cody Johnson original.

And Cody can play! : )
