Howdy All

I have a few questions about my X500. It is serial number 192xxx, which makes it a 1978 model. However on the sticker inside, for the model it is marked X500WAL.

Does this means it is Walnut stained finish, or the wood itself is Walnut?

I have never seen another one like this, so was this a special order? How rare is it?

I have lusted over X500s since I played one in the late 70's and finally bought this one a few years ago. I am more than happy with everything about this guitar, just looking for some info on it.

Thanks
edhead

Hello edhead,

WAL was indeed the suffix for the Walnut color/finish; not the kind of wood that was used. It is quite common on Starfires and solid body guitars like the S-300 from that particular period but very unusual on an X-500.

That's what I thought, just wanted to verify, thanks a bunch.

And Guildzilla, I am more than happy with this beast.

Ed,

Welcome to the sewing circle.

That's a fabulous color. I'd love to have any big Guild archtop in that color. I've seen very few.

Wow, love the color and the X500, I think those 17" deep body electric archtops though they weigh a ton, are very very nice...you know they are built to last and will only get better with time!
