Weber and Hoffman have reverb kits and you can pick tolex or tweed, et cetera.

That and a NOS 6K6 gets you into Dick Daleville.

Interesting that you would say that ! One of my ( long ) unfinished projects is a Fender 5G15 clone.

I'm OK Gary, got my $375 Ebay solid body Sprint running thru a Boss reverb pedal into the 1471. Wife's sleeping in the next bedroom so I need to keep the loud down, Silvertone is set at about 7, guitar volume about the same, there's a little Yamaha mixer in the loop too. Conversation volume & it sounds sweet, not much like Dick Dale, but more than OK & darn fun for a Friday.

Thank you again to the good Capn' Juan for overhauling my Silvertone, she's a gem. Not to say an adult reverb wouldn't sweeten things a tad.

Was Wuzza local, 1st thing I'd do is drop by with the 1471 & beg a gem lite installed. Little bugger, when its warmed up, is so quiet you can't tell it's on, switches are on the back & I've forgotten to turn it off more than once.

I have an Echoplex EP-1. The value keeps dropping. I love the effect and would never sell it, but the kids forget about the cool stuff now that there is Strymon and the likes.

Jeff, just stumbled upon thjis thread so will throw out my two pence...

I have an early '60's Fender outboard reverb. It does the Dick Dale bit very well, but can also be cut back to be subtle. I believe the newer ones come with a 6V6 power tube as opposed to the 6K6 (car radio tube) used in the originals. The 6K6 calms down the new reissues; there is also a slight mod you can do to them (changing a cap think), the the tube swap is the biggest benefit. The other two tubes are standard 12ax7/7025 and 12AT7's.

My son doesn't like it and says it drains all the gain from your signal. I have not found that to be the case, but then I am not playing like I did in the late 60's any more. I think it would be great for the basement or studio-use player. On stage, there may be vibration issues...Dick Dale used to hang his from overhead to isolate it!

I have one of these:

image.php

It is a Traynor TR-1 tube driven spring reverb, which has all the sweetness of a Fender outboard, but with a bit of extra gain so you can dial in a little heavier "crunch" with a wet mix. I have gotten to where I use it all the time...literally. It is very warm and can go from mild bounce to all out surfy space echo. It very much looks like the classic Brownface circuit, but instead of the 6K6/6V6, it uses two 12AX7's with a 6GW8 in between. It has one additional gain stage to the Fender. And it sounds sweet! :)

This outdated ad does a very good job of describing it.

Best thing is the price. These pop up periodically for less than 3 bills. Keep your eyes open and jump on one if you see it...I guarantee - if it is in decent electrical condition, you will *NOT* be disappointed. If you are -- I will take it off your hands for those 3 bills!
