Are you thinking the fake was done in 1970 and it has made its way to 2022? I could see faking a D55, but not a "lowly" D25. Still, this would be a really good fake. And you cannot fake old that easily (or economically), so it can't be a new fake either. I can see trying to fake a '59 Les Paul, but a D25? No.
No.

This could be a fake.

I was trying to politely disagree with another poster's suggestion that it might be fake.

You and I seem to agree that there is more money to be made by faking another model.

My observation is that many people who have knowledge of instruments that routinely sell for $5000 or more are worried about fakes but don't seem to realize that very few Guilds approach that price level and so Guild fakes are unlikely. Most of the counterfeits that were trying to be sold as Guilds were manufactured by a touring band and found in Texas. https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index.php?threads/sellers-of-counterfeit-guilds.169766/ There are some Guilds of dubious origins where there is evidence that the instrument was not assembled at the factory but for the most part Guild fakes and counterfeits tend to be rare or obviously fake.

Sorry! I hit "reply" to the wrong post. I was agreeing with you! My bad. Gotta pay closer attention to what I am doing.

Appreciate these replies. Throwing around all the history and theories. I certainly don't know it's origins, that's why were here, lol. But tho I'm certain it's not a fake, the no stamped back of headstock SN made me scratch my head, however if someone wanted to create a knockoff, you'd think they'd put a stamped SN. here right?
When I got here, she was trashed. I mended her up pretty good and she plays real sweet. The neck is sublime and the tone as you would expect.

Reading my comment now that it's a fake, it was a blowhard thing of me to say. She's a beauty and looks correct. I know there's people on this forum with decades more experience than me and expertise that I'll never have. I was just really surprised that the label and ink look brand new after 50+ years, on a guitar that probably has been around a campfire or two, just like mine.

So if the last serial number for '69 is given, this serial number is greater and the specs match '69 I'm going to say and conclude that it is '70 and that the serial number charts are incorrect or incomplete because there were a few "leakers" that left in 1970 with the old serial number scheme and the '69 specs.
Definitely not "a few leakers" in that case... Please all read again Hans book page 47 the entire right column under the Stuart 500...And I mean the text not the table.
