Saucy Lido,

I am just trying to get a ballpark value

Here's an honest attempt--a ballpark frank.

Here are a couple of recent ebay deals. I don't know why there is such a price disparity. Gbase doesn't have any now. According to the Vintage Guitar Price Guide, these should go for about $800 in excellent condition.

Ha ha!
That is a good point.
Mine is somewhere in between, not a "museum" piece, but not banged up either!
And I wouldn't touch that headstock break with a ten foot pole!
Oh well.
More comments encouraged,

A month or so ago, I took one for a test drive from Steve Swan, who is in the bay area (near the airport)
http://www.steveswanguitars.com/ (click under "other builders" and go down to the 3rd listing)
He was firm on 1200 for it. It was in a very worn, but very playable condition, with nice tone, but not something to me that was worth that much. I think because of the association with Nick Drake these are over valued by some. Note that this one is is older, 1959, with the ghost label and scripted "Guild". All things considered, to me, the Martin 00015S is a greater value for the dollar.
Good luck!

Yes,
I too think it is the connection with Drake.
Mine is in much nicer shape than that one is!It is from the Hoboken factory.
I have considered a trade with a small bodied Martin.
We will see.
Thanks,
T.j.

TJ,

Thanks for the link to Steve Swan. I didn't know about him. He sure has some fine guitars. Most of the makers I haven't even heard of.

Is he from Sacramento? He has this little remembrance of Tiny Moore that makes me think he was:

1970's Roberts Tiny Moore 5 String Mandolin (1102) Jay Roberts built these licensed 5 string electric mandolins in the 1970s as affordable versions of the 1952 Paul Bigsby instrument that Tiny used for the remainder of his career.... Tiny Moore played fluid jazz and a pre-rock distored hot take-off solo style with Billy Jack Wills' band in Sacramento and later occasionally played western gigs with his wife and sister-in-law in the 1960s and 1970s. I remember seeing Tiny Moore in his role of Ranger Roy (with mascot monkey "Anna Banana") on a kiddie cartoon show in the 1960s. I still treasure and use my brown leather guitar strap that I bought from Tiny in his small teaching studio and Music store in Sacramento whre these electric mandolins were sold to his students and fans.

M20 and Steve Swan

Not sure of his exact ties, although he comes over to Sacramento often, in that he has his upright basses set up by a fellow in Sacramento who lives just a few miles from where I do.
Very nice, knowledgeable dealer. One of those whom, while you didn't work a deal today, you know that at some time down the road you know you will.
