Curious, I see an 82 D-50 for sale locally and wonder what the rough price range might be. I am pretty interested in going and seeing it and I'd like to know where I stand. He's asking $750 and it looks to be in pretty good shape.

Clark,

According to the Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars, 11th Edition, 1980-93 D-50 in excellent condition ranges from 1,200-1,500; in average condition from 950-1,100.
But it's in the eye of the beholder and the money holder, and if it moves you, grab it!
There's my dos centavos. Good luck and get new strings right away!

Thanks, Killdeer. Wanted to know the rough range, that gives me a good feel for it. It looks really nice, so I'll get to go see it and play it this weekend - I'll pick up some new strings on the way down town.

I would say $750 is a steal if it's in decent (G-VG) condition... no cracks, decent action with saddle left, decent cosmetics. I tend to watch mid-late-70s to early 80s D-50s pretty carefully on eBay... and I would say they typically fetch upwards of $1K, depending on condition. $1200-$1500 isn't unheard of. If you've got the dollars, go look and see. If I had the dollars, I'd ask you to look at it for me! (alas, I don't, and you've got first dibs).

Times are tough and buyers few. $750 for a D50 in very good condition is good. I think $850 is a good fair price and about what you might pay to win an auction on ebay right now.

Son of a gun, I called on Friday and the poor fellow said I was the 15th caller and he had offers of over $!k already. Eeeks, I was interested at $750, but also happy for him, he sounded like he needed the money a whole lot. Oh well...
