fell better man. did not read all the posts but can completely relate to your situation. diet, exercise, sleep, and drink lots of water...sounds so easy right??
some food addictions are actually worse than heroin (cheese), seriously they found an enzyme or something in cheese that is literally more addicting than heroin!

what I have found is at first cravings are insane but if u just eat something else instead, 5 minutes later you are totally fine. and if u stick to that, in time, u will not crave the old food at all (very hard but doable- u must stay determined!). So if u are realy craving like a bacon cheese burger, and we have all been there...but find a way to eat a turkey sandwich instead, u have just made your best decision of the day (week?) and within 5 minutes the last thing u will be thinking about is that cheesburger (or any food at all). one day at a time, one meal at a time brother. also hammer a glass of water (or 2!) first thing in the am and when u get hungry throughout the day (instead of snaks and other garbage!) feel better DN!

Keep on keeping on my Dread dude.

We are pretty anti carb round here. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2015. We almost never buy real bread. Eat hardly any pasts. Meals consist of protein and veggies I can't let go of bread altogether so I usually buy one pack of low carb, high fibre pitas per week. I aim to keep daily carbs at around 25% or less of U.S .recommended daily total.

Oh and cheese, cold cuts, crackers, etc... gotta keep all that out of the house. Go to snacks are veggies and hummus or shrimp cocktail. I still splurge when we eat out but not so much burgers and fries. And when we order delivery it's usually Thai, not pizza. (Though don't tell my wife - I ordered a pizza when she was away visiting a friend last weekend.)

Exercise is the thing that really helps me keep my heart healthy, my A1c down and gives me the strength and energy to keep doing things I love like skiing and mountain biking and even projects around the house and garden.

I cook stir fry a lot. Chicken breast or shrimp and tons of veggies served with no rice. Sometimes with riced cauliflower.

Grilled salmon or steak with grilled veggies.

Turkey burger fajitas with salsa served on a bed of salad.

I need to make a list of " alternatives " and keep them around the house.

I'm lookin up that pasta sauce mentioned above! I haven't found anything in a jar that low.

"Silver Palate" in Safeway (maybe Albertsons or Lucky down there? I forget). 2 kinds: Tomato Basil or San Marzano Marinara. ;) Typically $3.99/25oz; occasionally BOGO and I stock up.

Just label says they're actually on Facebook and Twitter, "Silver Palate Kitchens".

Looks like I won't be getting out of here until the weekend. They want me to lose more weight and go home not on Oxygen. Sounds good to me.

Since Sunday morning I have lost 12 pounds, and all of it was fluid. The heavy dose of diuretics is doing the job. 😮

Well I may need to start drinking vinegar, they say there are some health benefits to that.

The food ain't bad but zero salt Overall, though, the food is quite good. The pot roast is excellent, it's tender like a little filet. They're definitely not starving me.

I'm actually not a huge salt eater. Most foods are already salty enough and I use a light hand when salting foods at home. But light salt and NO salt are different. I really like a tiny bit of salt. Either way, do what you gotta do, and I hope you're discharged soon. You can eat a bland, salt free diet at home. Sleeping in the hospital is rough!!! (y)

There was no way the food at the hospital I was at was any good. I mean someone would have to go out of their way to make it that bad. After the fourth day, I didn't even lift up the tray. A Lieutenant Dan moment.

There's a group of hospitals here in Las Vegas that are amazing. After all the joint replacements, I learned how great they are. All the rooms are private. They don't give a menu daily that you fill out, they just give you a menu. They say when they make certain things, and also what you can or can't have on a restricted diet. Then you just call the number like room service and place your order. I had a tuna salad sandwich one day that was so great we went back after I was discharged just to get some from the commissary for dinner!! Most everything I ordered was delicious and it was a great experience!! Still, better to go HOME..... there's no place like it!!

i agree… I go home every day, I work in a hospital 😀 . Seems the hospital facility services you mention are high quality! Respect! I’am in charge here ( two Hospitals in the Gelderland province in the Netherlands) for those facilities and know how hard it is to organize facilities on a high level with acceptable costs!

They do that here as well. It ain't necessarily gourmet food, but it ain't bad either. And they get it to your room hot, but not "piping hot."

I think it obviously has a lot to do with who is organizing the cooking and menus. When I was in the Navy, some chow halls were disasters, and some were great. And I'm sure they all started with the same ingredients purchased in bulk by the Navy. I was fortunate to be stationed at NAS Whidbey Island Washington, they had won the "Best Mess Ashore" award several years running. Even when we lived off base we would go in and eat meals at that chow hall.

Hospital food is hospital food, and will be hospital food.... remember: What makes food taste good, is generally what kills us (slowly but surely). On top of this, if the only reason they keep you in is the need to lose weight, I can see why what they give you wouldn't be too thrilling on a tasting standpoint.
So good on them if at least they have you say "It ain't necessarily gourmet food, but it ain't bad either."
Sounds pretty good to me. Hang in there, a couple more days to go!
