There is an auction for a X500, with humbuckers without cover.
The seller answered it was the case in the 80' , during a short time.
Just curious to know in what period the archtop were sold in this unusual "uncovered" version... :?:

Hello harptailpiece,

The seller is partly correct. The 'uncovered' pickups are DiMarzio units and they were an option during that particular period; hence the X-500D designation on the truss rod cover. The standard pickups were the regular HB-1 humbuckers with a cover.

Sincerely,

Hans, there is a X-500 on Ebay now advertised as a 2006 model. It looks great. I thought that Guild stopped all their electrics earlier than '06.

...and the cutaway seems to be deeper than on older models. Is it just an impression?

harptailpiece, I can't really tell if the cutaway is deeper or not. Hans will have to let us know if the body shape changed a tad.

IMHO, there is a slight but real change for the cutaway. (I believe it was the case for Benedetto's version of Stuart and Artist Award models too)

Hello Jake,

There were a lot of changes when the 17-inch archtops were redesigned by Bob Benedetto and the cutaway was one of them.

So Hans, I've never had the two side by side to look at. What are some of the changes on my Corona X-500? Why did Bob make changes. Were they to be for the better or just for the heck of it?
