I have seen them in at least two Starfire 4's. The models were from the 1980's and neither came with a pickguard.

XR7. It is quick to distortion. The bridge PUP is pretty intense. This pickup is great for rock.

I like beige Dimarzio's and Guilds for blues/rock.

I haven't heard XR7s or Dimarzio super distortions, but I've heard Dimarzio PAFs, and I really like those. Somebody had put them into a Duaner 400 I had, and that was really a fine sound.

Assuming a bridge XR7 differs from a neck XR7, how can I tell which is which?

My pick for dimarzio pickups is the Super II. I have two of them in one of my S-100s and they are amazing. Really nice definition.

Mat,

Are the Dimarzio super distortion and Dimarzio PAF both beige?

Do you prefer a super distortion in the bridge and a PAF in the neck?

Yes and Yes.

The neck PAF and bridge SD is the standard configuration.

I have a semisolid M75 like the one GoG picked up over the Holidays with the HB-1 swapped out for a set of Guild Dimarzio's PAF/SD.

I find this is good for blues without having to crank the amp as hard as with the HB-1's.
