I was looking into replacing the tuners on a 1964 Mark IV and was curious what make and model would have been used originally. I believe they would have been gold plated and I'm not sure if they would have been the "lyre" style plates.

Can't really help you with a good answer, but there was some previous discussion:

Ralf, I read through that thread and the discussion was that the Mark series had tuners with 37mm centers.

My 1964 Mark IV has standard 35mm centers on the tuners. So There is a large selection of replacement tuners for this guitar.

I think I will go with the Schaller Classical machines in gold. These were also the original type machines used on my 1993 Guild CCE-100 classical guitar so I think they will be a good match for this Guild as well.

The Schaller tuners would be an excellent choice. However, make sure that the headstock is thick enough, because the width of the Schaller baseplate is about 18,5 mm, so the thickness of the headstock should be at least 19 mm or it will look 'funny'.

Good luck!

Hans, that is a good point. My CCE-100 Is 21mm thick and the Mark IV is 20mm so I think the Schallers should work fine. I'm so glad I didn't have to look any more into the possibility of having to finding 36mm centers tuners. I am really enjoying the Mark IV but I couldn't justify a $300 set of tuners.
