I tuned the GAD-JF30-12 down a half-step, did some Byrds tunes and the sound of this Guild is licorice. Cherry flavor
I'm going to keep it there.
I keep my 12 string tuned down a full step, to D. I enjoy the richer sound that I get there, and with a capo on the second fret, I'm in tune with the rest of the world....provided the rest of the world is in standard tuning, that is.
Ironically, one of my favourite 12 strings song, '39, is tuned 1/2 UP, to F...
I tune down 6 strings guitars to play old black sabbath songs like the sigh of the southern cross and fluff, and in these case I prefer to use a guitar with a built in tuners, although I noticed that the volume of the guitar decreases.
