Hi.
I have a Guild D15 that means the world to me.
Not that I don't have alternatives like my Lowden F32, Gibson J45 TV, and a Taylor 310.

But my D15 has a history very close to my heart for me, and has been with med since I bought it new in 1987 I think it must have been. It has got the serial D150754.

I would love to see it back to life. I fixed a broken neck/headstock injury years ago, but it recieved a rather heavy blow from a speaker in my touring van, and the neck/fretboard and truss rod was all impacted severly.

My question is. Can I get a new truss rod, since this one is bent? Can I get hold of a new or second hand neck, that can replace this one?
How would a luthiere go about it?

I am living in Norway, but it can be sent of course.

Welcome. I'm sure the instrument can be repaired and made whole. The question would be at what cost? There seem to be used D15's for sale on Reverb (hence USA) for $1,000 to $1,500 so $2,000 should easily buy a donor instrument and a luthier to make the transplant. There are qualified luthiers who post here and would have much more informed opinions as to what repairs could be done and what to expect if they are made. That would certainly be less expensive. I await more informed and helpful opinions :)

Hello from Tammerfors

In case you do not find a good guitar repairman - how about asking some violin repair shop? I used to have a friend who was repairing all stringed instruments - mostly violin family. But he also did great work on guitars.

I miss him - he died one morning while sleeping - his then 10 year old son found him . . .

Perhaps a neck-donor instrument with a damaged body could be obtained for a couple hundred dollars/euros from ebay.

A skilled repair person could transplant a used neck onto your guitar body, or repair the current neck (and replace the bent truss rod), or even build a new neck. You need to talk to a few repair shops to see what would work for you, cost-wise.

In the US LTGer Tom Jacobs is often recommended, but his services would require round-trip shipping and you might find a more economical option in Europe.

Please let us know what you decide to do!

I think that neck can be repaired. Unfortunately, if the truss rod is bent it must be replaced and that means the fretboard has to come off. This isn't going to be easy, but it can be done. I'll let some others chime in and see what they think. That guitar took quite a hit!!
