Sorry to do a string thread, but... I had a customer order D'Addario Nickel Bronze strings last week, and had a chance to play them. I was pretty impressed with the initial sound and feel, and picked up a set for myself. I don't know how well they age, but so far, so good.

Good to know. Make sure you followup with your impressions after some time spent. I'm always looking for different strings to try. :encouragement:

Right, we had a thread about 'em a while back, mixed reviews.
Distinctly recall one explicit thumbs down, thought they had a negative impact on the guitar.

and they made my finger pads hurt more so than others.
i am getting old :)

I guess I should stop ignoring string threads, huh?

LOL.
But, it's understandable.
Actually I think it came up in one of RayK's threads as a veer, that they had been announced and he was on their "beta testing" list, "IIRC".
A couple other guys hopped on board when they were finally available.
They ARE pretty new so no harm puttin' 'em back on the radar.
But that negative review was enough to squelch my curiosity.
I hate changing strings.

In my experience, guitars (especially acoustic guitars) often vary tremendously across the spectrum. So, I don't necessarily assume something that works (or doesn't) for others will work out the same for me.

But I did ask for opinions, didn't I? :tongue-new:

This is SO funny!! LMAO!! You know, Dave... I don't remember any post past last week or month, so . if you wanna repeat anything I'm grateful, because I'm the same age as you and with the same attention span. HAAAAA HAAAA!! Well maybe I should drink a little bit less.

Or maybe a little bit more.... not sure. :hopelessness:

I tried these on my D-18 and really liked them, They sound great to my ears and last longer than the Martin SPs that I use on some other guitars. I recently brought home a 2016 Martin OMC-15ME and put a set of these on straight away. I really like them on mahogany, not as much on rosewood.

Just wondering - why is this bad? I find electric steel strings easier to play, and less wear on my fingers. Do you mean the sound is not as resonant as with other acoustic strings?

That's what I was thinking, walrus. "Plays like an electric" is usually a good thing as far as I know. Maybe he was referring to sound, but then I still don't understand.....

So far, I've found them to be pretty good on my DD6-RCE when playing it acoustically. Plugged in, not so much. Through the PA it's OK but through my amp they sounded a bit thinner than my usual choice, which is D'Addario EJ-16s.

I'll use them for a while and then move on unless they change significantly over time.

OMG, a string thread? Where is Frono?

My two cents, put a set on my (sudder!) Collings last summer and find then to sound much better than the (EJ17's) Bill Colling said are supposed to be on the guitar...which is unusual as I have tried a bunch and anyways back to those. I broke a G string right off while installing, and D'Ad send me a new one right away...they wanted the whole set back but I wasn't taking them all off the guitar! I have not played her much, but after a number of months on and in tension sounds bright and cheerful.

I had a prototype set of the Martin monel strings on my F47R for about two days and took them off...sounded terrible, sort of like dead electric strings that you put on your acoustic in a pinch. Many people love 'em, maybe I had a bad set? Hey, I'm the guy that doesn't like K & K p'ups either...

But anyway, I give a thumbs up to the Nickel Bronze.

Hey man, thats just what I do...:tongue-new:

However caveat...I like them for flatpicking/bluegrass. The Martin's are Tony Rice Signature for the same reason.

Which is odd, as the original Monel strings were the Gibson one's in the orange box..."Chet Atkin's" strings. Couldn't be further
away style-wise...

Might be great on a D40/50, probably not so hot on a D55 et al.

Put these (light gauge) on my D64, played them for about 5 hours over the last few days. I like how they feel - more "electric" feel than EXP PB strings I was using. I found the sound to be just slightly more muted - which I did not necessarily like - maple body, spruce top, maybe that's why?

Had to get used to the "look" of steel strings on an acoustic!

Anyway, I thought they were OK, but not a big "Aha!" moment. I've been a playing more "riff based" guitar the last few years, even on acoustic, but still do a lot of strumming, too, that's why I tried them. But I may be heading back to the EXP16's which I've used for years.

If you can stand it, try to leave them on for a bit and see if they wear in...I have to say, first up on the Collings and they were loud and proud, still are though she isn't getting played much.

I would love a report on how they sound on a D55, may have to do that myself, but I've got Ernie Ball 80/20's on her at this point which have been on so long and sound so good I don't want to upset that delicate balance. Ernie Ball acoustic strings on a Guild, can you believe it?

Would love to hear how the NB sound on a D55 in Bluegrass-mode...where is Martin-Taylor-Guild when we need him?

Also, just to throw a vere into this, hailing Tom In Vegas! Just Strings has a sale on GHS strings, might want to look at the Bright Bronze...not sure if they are still a deal after adding your postage...

GHS Bright Bronze, just-so-ya-know, are GHS's version of an 80/20 string sort of...they sound wonderful on a D55, though do not last as long as PB's...if there is a set of strings for the "I have a gig tonight and cannot have that D'Addario clankiness," "put 'em on and go play," then these are a good candidate!

Hope you have my back here, Tom...
