Cougar, funny you'd say that. We had a nice little townhouse on Beachwood Canyon and the back gate opened onto Gower! Then just a short drive down Gower I rented one of those little bungalows on the East side of the street just North of Sunset that were part of the old studios to do my furniture repair and restoration and refinishing. Just two rooms connected together and a small kitchen in the back and shared a patio with my neighbor, a super nice photographer guy who had the unit next door. I stayed there about 3 years or so before I just outgrew the space, but it was great just going out the back underground parking gate and down the street and I was at work. Just a few buildings up from Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles!!

Mess it up? I'm no expert, I guess it depends on who you ask. The low E is the challenge. Some of my guitars you have to settle for 2 1/2 wraps. When it happens to me, I leave it alone. I figure other things will come into play by rewrapping. Enjoy your NSD.

I want it and I know where you live.
And all you'd need to do is play it or strum it once! I remember when Steffan wanted a D25 that was here in Vegas that someone i knew was selling. I was checking it out for him. He brought it to my house and I played it a little bit and checked the neck angle and looked it over. He was staring at the D65S and I said, "Go ahead, you can play it." So he did and then I negotiated a bit lower price for the D25 and gave him the cash and had him sign a sales receipt and then said nodding to the blonde Guild, "So what did you think?" He said, "If my guitar sounded anything like yours I sure as hell wouldn't be selling it." That's always nice to hear, and the D25 was a nice sounding guitar.

Not to be critical, but did you put to much string on the top E? I see it not fitting the post. I'm a real nut when it comes to putting a nice spiral on the post, and I try and get 3 wraps on the top E.

We are an odd lot, that’s for sure. My method has always been two extra wraps on the low E string, and then an additional wrap on each string, ending with seven wraps on the high E. All of this is to feed the string deep from the bottom of the post to the nut. I have no idea if there’s a better method because it initially seemed logical & I’ve never done it any other way!

Sounds logical to me. My problem is getting the wraps started, smoothly - but getting better each time I change strings.

Tom, probably the closest I’ll ever get tonally to your beautiful guitar is with my 1976 G-37, which of course also has a maple dread body & arched back. There seems to be something about this combination that often results in a ringing piano-like release of notes - as has been recognized by many on this board.

As a signature sound for a guitar design, it surely is a sweet one, and yours has that extra dose of aesthetics to perfectly complement a stellar tone.

Thanks Ralf, I'll definitely make that happen. One thing that helps to create that problem is that the bottom screw tightens up and the hole is backed up with wood of the headstock or faceplate. At the top, however, there is space directly underneath the screw hole and the screw doesn't feel light it's biting into enough wood to be stable, so the tendency is to give it another partial turn and of course then it pulls the TRC down and out of shape like that. That's how that's happened over time. I loosened it up once and then the screw fell out. I found it but I may have to find a screw that's just a tad longer so it bites into some wood before it starts to pull the TRC out of shape. I hope i made that clear enough to understand.....

Tommy looks nice! I would consider something shiny to match the faceplate on the headstock. Where do you get your fancy TRC's? Like the engraved tuners, as well, though I'd not change mine, but they look fancy!!

Great story -- up to the Ambien part. Heartbreaking.

Glad you (andf Fixit) were ultimately able to make the save, though!

Tom my Trc screws never “bit” into the headstock well either...so now mine looks like this:

Pretty Guild! I especially love the highly figured maple on the sides. And being an arch-back, I would love to hear it.

Woody, sorry I never answered your question!! Not sure why? I bought the DV-72 used here in Vegas about 2012 or so. Actually, I think Sandy found the local craigslist post for me. Went to see it, negotiated a deal. Took a month to make it happen, but I'm so glad I did. Pure coincidence they're both 1994 guitars!!

Look at Tom, reviving his old thread fishing for more compliments on that gorgeous blonde!:ROFLMAO: No but that is beautiful and cool story, thanks for sharing. Made me flash back to 1994, and wondering what was I doing? Probably rollerblading on the strand in Hermosa Beach and the only guitar I had was my Fender Acoustic(which I do still have).

I don’t mind the resurrection and am happy to keep it going. Maybe some of you folks who have been on the forum a lot longer have seen another, but I have not. One of 20 and this is the only one I’ve seen being discussed. I wonder where the others live?
