Tony will be away from his guit. for a few days, so I sent him this then thought maybe others might like to take note of this too, or add their flavor to the topic. Steffan

Tony, that is a good way to enter 'new' territory. Like starting a new conversation with the instrument. Playing the same stuff over and over the same way all the time, starts out as a grove, then a rut, then a grave, you don't want to spend your life doing that, slow the music down, listen to a bit of reggae and play a song that way, Dylan does it regularly. Learn to play songs in different keys, How does it sound with a capo. Harry chapin does Taxi with a capo way up there. Play in a dark room. Put a spoon in your right hand and use it to tap on the strings. Have fun. There is no 'right' way to play. There are ways that work pretty well, and ways that don't work as well.....for you. Do some research on Thumbs Carlisle if you want to see some excellent but totally weird way to play a strat. While you're listening to music on the radio, ask yourself, what key is he playing in, and then you'll start to recognize what it sounds like in that key. Listen for any techniques you can identify. And remember, every one here, on the radio, and on recordings sucked....once,  Steffan
