Great pictures and description! I love such factory pictures. I took the factory tour in Nazareth some years ago and it is well worth it.

One picture shows something that would always confuse me: That "misplaced" EDIT: "offset" headstock veneer. I don't like it at all if they line the grain up to one side instead of centered, it always looks like a bended headstock...

Interesting - never noticed that before. I wonder if cutting it with one side parallel to the grain (like on the bass side of the headstock in the picture) saves wood.

Not sure. It's just that I personally prefer them in parallel to the neck, like on those examples:

A difference of opinion is one of the things that makes the world an interesting place! I recently purchased a new Martin OO-18. It has the offset grain in the Rosewood headstock veneer as shown in the photo in post #2. It was one of the visual appointments that I really like about the guitar. Once the tuners are installed, and the decal is placed, it creates a subtle but pleasing contrast!

Totally agree - I remember a passionate debate about gold foil headstock logos on the Martin forum. Would love to see a pic of yours! (And "offset" is a much friendlier term than "misplaced".:ROFLMAO:)

Finally got around to reading this article, and it looks like our old friend Frank Untermyer from LMG I is now director of supply-chain management for Martin. I think he's had at least one stop before getting to Martin since he left Guild

He left Guild already in 2012! And started in October 2012 at Martin.
