My first guitar was a Silvertone with strings 1/4" off the frets.

Developed calluses.

I was beaucoup lucky. My sister decided to learn guitar. So my dad bought her a Martin classical model. After a short time, she gave it up, and I took it. That moment coincided with the rush of the "folk revival." That was 1960. I taught myself, though I already was a musician on the piano, clarinet and saxophone. Boy, life deals us weird moments and opportunities.
