I have wondered - did any guitar bodies that would have otherwise become DeArmonds
become Squiers instead?

Haha! I swear the clearance on the Bonneville was only about 4 inches! A maintained dirt road is one thing but a mountain or country road with deep tire ruts and hump in the middle is another thing. I can tell you from experience that you can bottom out the fly-wheel cover very easily! Fortunantly many a car guys had ramps made of railroad ties in our town so you could get under a car easily to access the fly-wheel cover and hammer🔨 it back out before your dad found out!!😂
