Yep. Much discussed. There are some "facts" in the narration that have been questioned and a handful of pictures with John and the guitar. Nice to be reminded, though.

I wrote the letter of authentication in the photo you saw that is framed with the guitar at the Hard Rock Cafe in Hawaii. John gave it to Tony Cox, Yoko's first husband and he called me for the letter, because he wanted to sell it.

Thanks, Bob, that's interesting. The video gives the impression that George ended up with the guitar, but I guess he was just borrowing it from John for a while.

I've never seen or heard any evidence that George ever borrowed it. He was definitely pi$$edhe didn't get it for himself, you can see it in his face. Had Dronge given it to George and he used it on tour or in the studio, who knows what might have been for Guild?

Here's some photos from (approximately) the White Album period of the guitar with John, I assume in his house.

Wow. A lefty and a righty. Used during the composition of "you're gonna lose that guild".

For John's pic, as best as we can tell it was very early '70. Discussed in another thread about sighting those F47's. I think SFIV1967 (Ralf) did the detective work? Deduction based on John's haircut IIRC a period when he an Yoko were in Denmark for which a couple of other photos give historical verification, I think?

But now that I see it again, yeah Paul's pic is obviously from a much earlier date as you said, ca. '65-'66 looks like. Notice Paul's playing a righty upside down. Could swear there's a pic of both of 'em both playing F47's together from one of those sessions, too.

And Paul has his Beatle boots on. Definitely different time periods. Awesome seeing these photos. Thanks Walrus!

OK, wanted to find that pic of both of 'em together if I could, but the first hit I looked at was this thread with that pic of Paul from a New Yorker article and says it's '64:

Wow, that was first year for F47 so what's up with that?

Oh well, can't find the pic unless it's of those that doesn't show up anymore in this thread, winding us back up to the provenance history of that Starfire 12:

Mark Dronge told me that John was his favorite Beatle and that's why he gave it to him. Mark also said George was visibly annoyed at the time. He also said there was no security. He walked right in. For all they knew, he could have a gun in that guitar case. It was simpler times.

Ultimately, it was a guitar John played around with for a while and finally gave away.
