While the referenced links have no Guild content, I'm willing to declare that almost anything related to Jack Casady is an appropriate topic for discussion.

This is an interview article and this has an interview video. The two don't overlap.

I found two points interesting. First, Jack says that tone is what is most important and that tone is what defines a particular musician. Given the number of times people have tried to reproduce Jack's tone or people have said that "Jack sounds like Jack" no matter what bass or amp he is using I find it interesting that he articulates exactly what he is striving for. To the extent that he is correct it also explains why so many people try and sound like he does but never nail it completely.

Second, he talks about his approach to the bass in the context of a song. My approach is still in the baby stage - I'm still trying to play the notes that I heard someone else play - and it is rooted in the classical tradition where you first play the notes on the page correctly and then the music begins, so I found his comments thought provoking and a glimpse at how "The Better Half" approaches playing.

Thank you. That was classic Jack; thoughtful and insightful.
