So . . . what does everyone think about the current environment for selling a guitar (online of course)? My first thought was it's bad since the market is down and folks will cut back on spending for non-essentials (sorry folks our guitars fit into that category). But then I started to consider the possibility that with everyone cooped up at home for the next several weeks on their computers working remotely, internet surfing might be up and EBay and Reverb might see more traffic.

IMHO, I think the financial ramifications (employment issues, retirement funds, etc.) will have a negative effect. Even if I'm online looking around, I would want to be pretty conservative with my money right now.

It's never a good time to sell a guitar. The right answer is always to buy another one. :watermelon:

:)

I would not sell now. The weather might get cold again, but more to the point, a lot of people in my circles are pretty stressed out about money. Unless I needed the money and was willing to accept less than probable market value, I'd wait until the stock market had been stable for a while and people were not having their hours cut back.

Just sold a mic on Reverb yesterday. I sold the other one a few weeks ago for $125. So I listed this one at $150 (same exact mic) and someone snatched it up. Go figure.

I'm not sure what to think of this question. Actually I'm totally with walrus and would like to keep my money together due to all the current uncertainties, but on the other hand the lockdown could force some people to sell their gear and accept prices quite a bit under market value... So I think it depends a bit on how you judge the situation in your country and how much you are affected personally income-wise, but when you have saved up some money you are ready to invest despite the uncertainties, you might get hold of some good deals. I for my part will observe the market thoroughly and take my chances :)

Oh I just read your question again, you asked for selling not for buying :nightmare::highly_amused: maybe you can still do something with my answer to a question you didn't ask :)

If you're looking to sell, list it and see what happens. If it doesn't sell, then no biggie.

Shutting down USPS is probably next.

For those who do not bank online--could be a positive thing. Payment postponed for three to six months or longer. Just set those payments aside in separate savings account - draw that tiny interest on it and write them the big check when USPS cranks back up. Or some individual or group start up another delivery service. GUBPOT --Get Ur Bills Payed On Time. OK didn't give the name a lot of time.

More likely a buyer’s market now and over the next few months

I'd think its not a good time to sell. People are just distracted right now. Too busy stocking up on toilet paper to worry about buying guitars.

I'm here in India, where there are far fewer CV cases. Anyway, why the obsession with TP? Is TP an alternative to tissues (Kleenex)? Anyway, there are countervailing circumstances -- the markets are at the moment chaotic (though I suspect they will settle down -- they always do, right?), and guys like us like to sit alone in our music rooms, or if you don't have the luxury of such a room, anywhere in your house, and simply enjoy the beautiful resonances coming from our Guilds, and listening to our poor voices, even if our wives don't appreciate our efforts. So, some poor bastard, might want to buy a nice sounding Guild and while away his/her time. Can't hurt to post the guitar for sale, if you're crazy enough to sell one of your Guilds (which I admit I've been guilty of too many times!).

Play on! Sell on!

Anyway, why the obsession with TP?

Have not seen satisfactory answer. Toilet paper, bread, milk and adult beverages are the traditional items to be stocked and hoarded in a snow emergency, at least in the North East, so it may be that people now respond in a similar fashion to any emergency. The psychological pundits have noted that hoarding something is a response that helps people feel in control, or regain some control, in situations that are otherwise beyond their control.

Pro Tip - Office supply stores, such as Office Depot and Staples, and home improvement stores, such as Home Depot and Lowes often stock toilet paper on a regular basis and are reported to have plenty in stock.

I think some people are buying TP because they heard that other people are buying it and they want to make sure they get some before it's all gone.

I'm completely serious.

Ordinarily, tax refund season is a good time of the year to sell but this year is a whole different animal. I plan to keep an eye on any Guild related no-reserve auctions and see how those fare. No-reserve auctions on Ebay seem to be few and far between these days (most sellers want a healthy reserve price to start bidding) but they're one way of gauging what the market is really like out there.

I sold a Gibson a week ago today and that didn't turn out too bad.

That's funny, I thought you were talking about Corona, CA Guilds and the effect of the Corona virus on their sale.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the "vast unwashed" were not willing to buy these because of the name. Look at the effect on Corona beer sales!!!!
