Ravon, I live in Anderson. I hope you have a nice visit.
learnintoplay62, the guitars are all very different. My go to guitar at this time is my H&D. It is equipped with a passive K&K mini and just plays like a dream. It doesn't have the deep low of a dread, but it has a nice rich bass end. It is equally comfortable flatpicking or fingerpicking, which is why I like to play it the most.
My D-28 is the oldest one and it has that big Martin dread sound one would expect from a guitar that has been played for many years in clubs and wherever else. That guitar seems to have new songs in it nearly every time I play it. I picked it up in a bar (another story) in 1978 where I was working and after a few years, it started to get really hard to play. In the mid 90s I shipped it back to Martin and they fixed it up. It was like getting a new guitar. Plays very smooth these days.
The OM-18V is a very punchy, loud, full sounding small bodied guitar. It's very near dread-like, but has these sparkling highs that just sing out. It's a lot of fun to fingerpick, but can do flatpicking just as well. The bridge string spacing is a bit wide, so it takes some getting used to.
The Guild is a big loud dread. It has a very distinct articulation. You can play it whisper quiet or bashing loud. The notes just pop out of it. For a while there, it wasn't getting a lot of playing time, but lately I've been taking it out again. It was my main guitar from late 1990 to '95 or '96.
The Epiphone is the guitar I use in my other band, which is mostly roots oriented, blues/rockabilly stuff. I play it through a Vox AC15C1. Nice sounding, economical guitar.
The Rigel is a terrific mandolin that sounds very cool whether played acoustically or plugged in. It's a bright little feller.
The Kamaka is a powerful little uke with an unusual stringing. The first and third strings are tuned in octaves, but the first string has a low A octave, while the C pair has one an octave higher. If you play a solo, it sounds a bit upside down. But rhythmically, it is a lot of fun to play.
