Re: Tell me what to do with my Melitta

What are you putting it on? Is it a new one, or an original?

Plastic saddles, so I don't think I'd use it on a Bigsby guitar, not if you were planning on using the Bigsby much, that is.

Whew....no offense, but my melita advice is usually "take it off, store it in a box, and put something more practical on the guitar" or "sell it to a Gretsch collector"..

What guitar do you have a melita on?

I go along with Walter. They are cool bridges but they make it near impossible to mute the strings with your picking hand. If your playing style doesn't mute often then the Melita is a excellent bridge.

Good Guild Peoples,

I have several starchtops I could try it on. But apparently it won't work with a bigsby. And even if it did, the right-hand muting would be a problem. I picked up my right-hand muting technique from playing pedal steel. (Jim got his from playing trumpet.) Anybody know a Gretsch freak? Looks like I might part with my part.

To help future searches for "Melita," I'll correct my spelling error. I had a good association to the word "Melitta" but forgot that "Melitta" was the brand of coffee I drank in Sweden. As a native Californian, I have sun in the heart and fog in the brain.

DH, you're my kind of guy. That's what I got!!

I think I saw a chrome one sell for $250 the other day. They used to go for more, especially the gold ones.
And, if they have reissue Melitas, one could probably get new plastic pieces and/or new slider/screw parts.
Wy don't you watch the market for a while and see where it's at????

For those few (formerly including me) who didn't know what one was or what it looked like ... a Guild CE100 on the GearPage (linkable only for those registered) with a Melita Bridge ... and I thought it was an obscure town in Canuckistan ...
