Anyone here changed the nut on his Newark St. electric?

The nut on my Aristocrat is filed wrong in different ways and generates different weird intonation and tuning issues. My attempts to save it aren‘t successful.

I’d like to know if removing the nut holds on any surprises in store, e.g. if it‘s glued on like a rock :(

I would use a block of wood and give it a light tap towards the headstock, if it comes off easily you will immediately see, if not a plan B needs to be made...

It looks like that nut has already been replaced once. IIRC, these originally came with plastic nuts (which were also filed horribly). Someone did the right thing and replaced it with a bone nut, at least. They just needed to know how to file it correctly.

You can also see that they didn’t do any tapering and rounding off at the ends.

Nope, the Aristocrat came stock with this bone nut.

The X350 is advertised as having bone as well.

We've seen them change specs over time on other NS guitars so I'd say anything is possible.

But, regardless, it seems they still haven’t figured out how to cut good slots.
