There is just so many import Guilds out there. There is thousands in my searches. You cannot throw a slab of Whitewood without hitting several!
But, I too am guilty of liking many of them. I wish I could try them all.
Sometimes, the glorious "old days" are cursed. No longer does a search yield the treasure we once knew so well.
I just hope that the powers that be do not decide to open a new factory, state of the art, dedicated to the rebirth of some of Guilds most iconic models. Because they just might locate it somewhere with the unfortunate name of Waverly.

The company decides what guitars they sell, where they are built, and what name goes on them. They add to the volume of the company and the profits. If you don't like non-USA Guilds, don't buy one. If you only want USA Guilds, then buy them. Most of the people who are bitching wouldn't spend the money to buy a new USA built Guild so their arguments are falling on deaf ears, here. Jeeze.....

Nice Krysh...really shows off your chops, nice and melodic, working through a theme, not a thousand-notes-per-second!

What I would really like to hear is a Surfliner doing what its name implies...Fender 6L6 amp (or clone), reverb on about 2-4, rockin' the tsunami! Makin' Dick Dale sweat (RIP)

I know ya got it in ya ;)

That's a really good point, DeA. But, I guess the on/off pickup switch system is how they're defining the Surfliner model. As a software guy, a switch per pickup seems like the natural way to do this, but for a 'leccie player (which I'm not) I imagine it's pretty bizarre.

Edit: And yeah the color shown for the HH model is very cool. I think you/we are also reacting to the black vs. white pickguard.

Chaz, ya just are not OLD enough! That switching arrangement is how all the 60's Japanese import "lo-fi" guitars were back in say, 1966. Only thing really missing is the ubiquitous "Rhythm/Solo" (suck!) switch. Maybe they should put in a slider for that, PLEASE make it a Switchcraft!

I am quite sure those (Chinese?) computer on/off switches Guild is using on these are much better than the junk of yore...

Thanks a lot Bill, but neither do I have a 6L6 amp, nor can I do Dick Dale. ;)

I guess there are plenty of Chinese manufacturers who makes those specific SPST rocker switches. As I have not seen pictures of a removed pickguard on a Surfliner the exact manufacturer/partnumber is not clear yet, it might be Yueqing Daier Electron Co., LTD, their model is KCD1-12-101. However the one on the Surfliner might look different in one tiny mechanical detail to me.

here a long clip of my Jamband "Lilienfeldt" in an improvised Jamsession on April 1st with me playing my Surfliner standard:

Love it! Reminiscent of my favorite era of my favorite guitar man, Gabor Szabo in the early 70's. The guitar sounds very nice and your playing is on point!

Best of Gabor Szabo LP.jpg

He rose to recognition as guitarist in Chico Hamilton's band in the early to mid 60's: I learned of him from Downbeat magazine (is that still published?) I had his LP "Spellbinder" I think it was. Remember his images as playing a Gibson J-160, but have seen other later ones with him playing a Martin dread with a p/u. Good player. Carlos Santana may have copped a couple of his songs...

Yes indeed, I always liked his tasteful style and tone. Santana has said on a number of occasions that Gabor was one of his big influences. I think they actually spent some time together as well... don't believe there are any live recordings of them formally performing together though. My favorite recording of Gabor is definitely the '74 "Jazzpodium" Budapest sessions that were also recorded on video. He's got a number of great albums too, even if a few of them have some 70's/80's cheese-factor due to the production, but I think the songs themselves are magnificent.
