Someone here once pointed out that many of these countries have centuries old traditions of building some kind of stringed instruments. Think sitar in India, wakkagi in Japan, and many variations in China.
Yeah, but they "ain't" your great, great grandaddy's India, Japan, or China. It's all about $$$ now, not some kind of sacred musical guild (no pun intended). Do I sound cynical? ;)

I’ve been known to listen to Nickelback. The whole “your favorite band sucks” thing is dumb. Hell, I even have a Creed CD somewhere. It should be obvious by know that I don’t really care what people think of me. :)
I've also never been a fan of so-called "guilty pleasures". Either you like a song, or you don't. And Karen Carpenter was an ass kicking drummer!

I got the guitar today. Only got to play with it for a fe mins but I’m pleasantly impressed! I kind of love the clean tone from the neck and middle position pickups.

The switches don’t bother me at all, probably since I’ve had many Guilds with slide and mini toggle switches.

I think it’s got a great surf sound and I do think it needs a Bigsby or something similar.

My biggest impression is definitely those two pickups.

The way the fingerboard just abruptly ends at the nut instead of continuing into the "carve" of the headstock is troubling. There is no nut slot, it just sits there (probably glued into place). Cost saving related no doubt. Also that first fret looks really grungy. Is Cordoba not setting these up?

@archiestone , the 25.5 inch scale is pure Fender (not sure what Guild has used before on solid body electrics) and poplar as a body wood is also ala Fender. I am pretty sure that the Musicmasters, Duo Sonics and Mustangs of the '60's were poplar-bodied. I had a late 90's Squier tele that was multi-piece poplar. I do not think it is as heavy as ash or maple for guitar bodies...
Guild used 25.5" on the bolt-ons, at least on the samples I have. Poplar is a light weight, straight grained wood that paints extremely well without a lot of preparation. It doesn't require a lot of filling, it machines easily, and it isn't endangered. Tulip poplars grow quickly and they grow big. It's a little soft, so it dings a bit more than other guitar woods. It's easy to see why it's used for less expensive guitars.

Additionally the 80's setneck Bluesbird solid body guitars had the 25.5" scale neck. But they were heavy guitars especially the maple body models.

I see Sweetwater is now taking orders for Surfliner guitars but they don't have them in stock for shipping yet.

I kinda like the look of them, and think thats fairly inexpensive. I mean what a great price point, seems they are aiming to compete directly with Squiers, what with the two single coils, maple neck. It's very Fender-ish :)

I think I want one, would be my entry into the world of electrics. A red one would be great but as red is not offered I would choose orange, but at present my bucks are on hold for a possible Bronco project.

I'll watch from afar and see what everyone's impressions and opinions are. They look like fun guitars!

My understanding is the body is made of Poplar. That make for a bit of a dullish tone hosting some overly bright pickups. However, the thing is an entry level guitar and I bet some kid would think it is the coolest ever... My sense is it shouldn't have Guild on the headstock.
